Exclusive Excerpt:I could feel his stare weighing on me, heavy and warm like a blanket I didn’t ask for but appreciated all the same. He watched from across the hall, watched me like a man who saw something he fantasized about possessing. A beautiful car, a valuable company, a woman, either way, I was only an object to him. That was fine. Impersonal, the way I preferred my relationship with neighbors. My hand trembled as I slid my gold key into the slot of the deadbolt, securely locking my door. The ornate moldings throughout the building imposed a sense of security as well as a sense of lavish luxury, so my sudden unsteadiness wasn’t due to fear, but rather the result of my hot neighbor’s nearness in our shared, narrow hall. This man should not stir the feelings he roused inside of me. Don’t look… Sliding the ornate key into the narrow pocket of my Dior clutch, I tried to hide my body’s response to his attention. He pretended to sort a handful of mail outside of his apartment door, his tailored, bespoke clothing the usual high-end office attire, but he didn’t strike me as a self-important snob. Just a result of good circumstances. Regardless of his background, he got up and went to work every weekday and sometimes on weekends. The golden stubble covering his jaw was proof of yet another long day’s work. Snapping my clutch shut, I pretended not to notice him, and fought the urge to dissect him with my eyes. No one read their mail in the hall. They grabbed it from the lobby and dumped it on their counter when they walked through the door. Yet he eye fucked each envelope with the same intensity one reviewed a life or death contract. I doubted he read a single word. Bingo. With a flick of his thick lashes, blond enough to give his blue eyes a dramatic gilded fringe, his gaze left the mail and landed on me. I looked away because there wasn’t time to play the demure flirt, and the last thing I needed was another man in my life.

When You Come Back To Me by Emma Scott is now live! At Santa Cruz Central High School, they called them the misfits, the outcasts, the weirdos. But most of us knew them as the Lost Boys... Holden Parish survived his parents' horrific attempts to make him "the perfect son." After a year's stint in a Swiss sanitarium to recover, he has vowed to never let anything--or anyone--trap him again. Brilliant but broken, he seeks refuge behind alcohol, meaningless sex, and uses his wicked sense of humor to keep people away. He only has to ride out one year in the coastal town of Santa Cruz with his aunt and uncle before he inherits his billions and can make his escape. Disappear. Falling in love is not in the plans. River Whitmore. Star quarterback of the Central High football team, Prom King, Mr. Popular, ladies' man. He leads the perfect life...except it's all a lie. His father has River's future in the NFL all planned out, while River's dream is to run the family business in the town that he loves. But his mother's illness is tearing the family apart and River is becoming the glue that holds them together. How can he break his father's heart when it's already shattering? River's carefully-crafted façade explodes when he meets Holden Parish. A guy who dresses in coats and scarves year-round, drinks expensive vodka, and spends his free time breaking into houses for the fun of it. They're complete opposites. River seeks a quiet life, away from the spotlight. Holden would rather have dental surgery than settle down. Holden's demons and River's responsibilities threaten to keep them apart, while their undeniable attraction crashes them together again and again, growing into something deep and real no matter how they resist. Until one terrible night changes everything. Lost Boys is a new series of interconnected, coming-of-age standalones from USA Today bestselling author Emma Scott, coming in 2020

5 Heart Review by Ashley My heart. My heart. My heart! It is just full to overflowing after reading When You Come Back to Me. I was itching to get Holden's story since I first met him and let me tell you, Emma Scott did not let me down one bit. I don't even know where to start with Holden. He is so smart. SO dang smart. But so broken. So lost that he didn't know how to trust anyone. Even himself. I just wanted to wrap him up and let him know that he was so much more than the garbage his parents had put him through. But that was the crux of his problem, he had to do the work for himself. And he never had a reason to, Until River. Oh River. That boy carrying the weight of the world on his shoulders. The expectations of his teammates and father. The hope of his mother. The grief of his sister. The secrets of his heart. But all it took was one moment in time with Holden to shake up his perfectly constructed facade. There were times when the angst was almost unbearable. It was heavy. Full of pain. Both Holden and River caught in this cycle of trying to do the right thing at the sacrifice of their own happiness. The weight of it made my chest ache. But laced under all the pain and turmoil was this thread of hope that just wouldn't let go. The way Emma Scott took two broken, in wildly different ways, boys and made them whole with the other made When You Come Back to Me a love story for the ages. River and Holden's journey to finding happiness, themselves, love was beautifully charted. Wild. Chaotic. Turbulent. Gut wrenching. But that ending! Be still my heart it was perfection. Excerpt On the stage, Miller spoke into the mic in a low, almost shy voice. “Hey, my name is Miller Stratton. I’m going to play a song by Coldplay. It’s called ‘Fix You.’”I let my gaze slide to Holden, studying the contours of his profile—his chiseled jaw and cheekbones, strong nose, full lips. He swallowed, and I watched the movement of his Adam’s apple. Thoroughly masculine. Nothing feminine about it. “Can I help you?” he whispered, eyes forward. “It sucks not talking to you,” I said, as Miller strummed the first chords of the song. “I don’t know why. You’re arrogant as fuck.” “Fair. You’re a grilled cheese sandwich.” I snorted. “A what?” “Shh,” Holden said. “Listen. This is our song.” Our song. Nothing was ours. There was no us. But Miller sang that if you never try you’ll never know, and the words pierced me like arrows. I took my hand out of my pocket and let it hang by my side again. Again, my skin brushed Holden’s, sending shards of heat dancing up my arm while Miller sang about lights thatignite your bones. I looked at Holden and he looked at me. Without letting myself think, I slipped my fingers around the side of his hand and slid my palm against his. He gasped slightly—a small intake of breath only I heard in the darkened auditorium. Then he let his hand settle into mine. Another heartbeat, and our fingers laced together. “And I will try,” Miller sang, his rich voice hovering in the air in that silent auditorium. “To fix you.” A short silence fell before the crowd erupted in thunderous cheers, unlike anything I’ve ever heard. Miller’s version of the song was unlike anything I’d ever heard either, as if he were singing directly to me. To us. Because it’s our song. Under the cover of applause, I let go of Holden’s hand and tugged the cuff of his coat.“Let’s go.” I left without looking back but heard Holden’s footfalls following. Warning bells clanged in my head but were drowned in the thrashing beat of my heart that felt as it were trying to break free of its prison like it had at the pool. Only this time I was stone cold sober. No excuses.I pushed open the door next to the auditorium—the back area of the band room that was for instrument storage. Huge basses loomed in dimness, and drums of all sizes and styles lined the walls. Holden followed me in and shut the door behind him. “Hello, friend.” “I put in my college applications,” I said as he approached me in the darkness. “I’m going away to Texas or maybe Alabama this summer.” “Establishing the rules, are you?” he drawled, though his voice was thick and tinged with nerves. I swallowed hard. “Nothing’s changed. Nothing can change.” “I told you,” Holden said, in front of me now. “I’ll never ask you for anything. I don’t have anything to give. Except this.” I wanted to tell him that wasn’t true, that I was the one who had nothing to offer. I shouldn’t have led us here. I should walk out, but his goddamn voice, the scent of him, his presence was overwhelming. My hands itched to touch him, to grab him and…Kiss him? My first kiss with a guy. It seemed as if I’d been waiting a lifetime for it and yet the moment was rushing at me like a speeding train. “Stop thinking, River,” Holden whispered. “We’re here. Right now.” He leaned in. What are you going to do?”

Title: Sunsets and SomedaysAuthor: S.L. SterlingSeries: 425 Madison AveAbout Sunsets and Somedays:Ben
I know why I lost her. I was too serious. I was too practical. I was grounded when I should’ve been dreaming about forever with Jess.
Over time, this wore on her, all her big exciting ideas and all the ways I shut them down. No wonder she handed me my ring back and left town. No wonder she hadn’t been back in ten years. No wonder she’d married someone else, leaving me with memories of sunsets at the beach and the somedays we planned for the future we’d never live. So, I built a lift without her. My father and I opened the second division of Sunset Builders in New York, and to my surprise, I stayed busy, almost busy enough not to notice the loneliness. While I was on a job site, my little sister booked an appointment with a woman who lived on Madison Avenue. A quick bathroom and kitchen remodel, she’d said. I should have asked more questions because when I arrived and the door opened memories came flooding back. Jessica had returned. If I’d learned anything in her absence it was that anything worth doing was worth being done well, and anything worth having was worth fighting for. Maybe by the time the condo was done, Jessica would give me a second chance. Jessica
All those years ago, Ben had been right to try to keep me grounded. I should’ve listened. The falls didn’t hurt as bad that way.
Instead, I wanted a bigger life in a bigger place and I never appreciated the beauty of living in a small town with a huge support system. So, I left town without so much as a goodbye chasing a silly dream. I alienated myself, moved to a strange city where I knew no one, and chased after something that took me down a dark path. I married the man who promised me the sun, moon, and stars, but delivered blinding blows. Sometimes, I thought I’d die before I escaped the nightmare. I knew my only way out would be to run...again. This took more years than I could count. Years of me squirreling away money, and years of me hiding in the dark so that no one would see my bruised face in the light of day. Then my grandfather died. He left me money and a gorgeous condo in New York. While my husband was away on a month-long trip, my best friend drove me to New York. My plan: to upgrade the condo, sell it, and leave my current life behind. Little did I know when I had called contractors to get some quotes that Ben would show up on my doorstep. He swore we could make more dreams real, but this time I was the grounded one. This time, I could only see how it would never work. I’d made too many mistakes. Love was terrifying. And I never wanted to tie myself to anyone ever again. After all, 425 Madison is the perfect place to fall in love.

Exclusive Excerpt:I slowly opened the envelope and pulled out a thick stack of papers. On top sat some beautiful images of Jessica, which I flipped through slowly, taking them in. "These are amazing pictures of you. It was nice of them to send them to you. I love this one," I said, holding up what I thought was one of the best shots of her. "Yeah, they are great, but that isn't all they sent me," she said, the excitement building in her voice. She reached over and pulled the images off the thick pile of paperwork, producing what looked to be a contract. "Two weeks ago, they called and presented me with an enormous opportunity, and here it is! All in black and white." She squealed. "I waited to tell you until I got the paperwork." I began reading the letter that sat on top. Words like contract, New York, California, moving. They were the ones that jumped out at me, and I felt my chest getting tight at the thought of her going away. I swallowed hard. "What does all this mean, Jessica?" "It means they are offering me a modeling contract in the big city, Ben. It's my dream come true. I'll get to model and see the sights, and I am so excited that I wanted to share this with you in our special place." "What did your parents say?" I asked as I sat there trying to focus and re-read the letter, but it did little good, so I started flipping through the bundle of paperwork. "They were angry. Furious, actually," she said, picking at one of her nails. "Are... Are you going to go?" I asked. I could feel tightness in my chest that hadn't been there before, but now that I'd asked her the question, it didn't seem to want to let up. "Well, I thought that perhaps you would want to go with me. I'm sure my parents would feel better about it if you were with me. Plus, there is so much opportunity out there, and it would only be for a little while. I mean, the contract is only for a year. I want you to go with me." My stomach hurt at the thought of her leaving me, and it was getting harder and harder for me to breathe. It reminded me of the time that I had gotten tackled in one of my high school football games. The guy had come charging at me and knocked me flat on my ass. I hadn't even seen him coming. When we collided, I went flying, and when I landed, he had knocked the air right out of me. This was no different. She had tackled me, just differently.
