Damian Tate. One look into his sad green eyes and I was hooked. I wanted to be the one to make him laugh, to make him smile. I hadn't expected him to be the one to make me blush, to make me hot...to make me fall in love. He was my first kiss, my first love, my first everything. I wanted forever with him, but life got in the way.
He enlisted, I went to college, and for years we were never in the same place long enough to pick up where we left off.
Thirteen years after he left, tragedy brings him home. The stoic boy I fell in love with grew into a quiet, dangerous and wildly sexy man. He still tugs on all the right strings for me, but he seems determined to keep me at arm's-length.
However, when trouble comes knocking at my door, he is the one to put himself between that trouble and me.
Spending time with him might drive me insane, or it might be our second chance at first love.
4.5 Star Review by Ashley
Warning this is gonna be a bit of a long one...but that's only because it was that good!
I'm going to get this out of the way...Devil You Know is the first book I've read from L.A. Fiore! Crazy, I know, especially since I have a few of her other titles waiting for me on my device (I'll be getting to those soon!). Now, don't let the title fool you because while this story has a few dark moments, it is not at all what the title suggests. This book is a second, third, fourth chance romance in it's most lovely form.
It was luck that Damian and Thea met. These two couldn't have had a different upbringing if they tried. One of them, the child of a cop, the other has parents who don't care about anything or anyone but themselves. But Thea, with her big loving heart wore him down with her kindness and their unlikely friendship blossomed into something more.
Life caught up with the young lovers, like it tends to do. Time and circumstance kept these two apart even though their hearts longed for the other. When tragedy strikes, questions arise. Danger is eminent and plans are put into motion. Damian's need to protect Thea comes to the forefront and he would do it with his life and in the next moment push her away. Befuddling sexy man! The hot and cold he kept giving Thea was enough to drive me made! But Thea, ever the optimist, sees the he sees it as her chance, once and for all to give them the future they've always dreamed about.
I can't leave out the rest of the cast of characters! They all played such an important part in the story. Everyone from Cam, Thea's brother to Anton- the "good" thug and Mrs. Cooke helped make Devil You Know more than just a book. The relationships both Damian and Thea had with these people made the story that much more believeable.
The road to happily ever after is never easy and these two learn that in a big way. Oh my racing heart- that ending! Talk about unexpected twist! Nobody saw that one coming. Lies, secrets, deception, hope...it was all there and at the core of it all was a love story for the ages. A love story that made my chest ache and emotions flare. I felt everything from sadness to fear to hope and joy while reading Thea and Damian's journey to a love that will last a lifetime.
L.A. Fiore is the author of several books including: Beautifully Damaged, Waiting for the One and A Glimpse of the Dream. She's also the social secretary for her two children, a tamer of ill-mannered cats, the companion to one awesome dog and married to her best friend. She likes her wine red, her shrimp chilled and her social gatherings small and intimate.
