I never believed in fate. Destiny was something magical, something written in the stars. I was a world away from having that kind of excitement in my life. I was alone, praying for a baby, that little miracle I could hold in my arms. My husband fought me at every turn, but I knew I would break him down one day. It was just a matter of time. In the end, fate took the shape of my best friend and her husband, who were desperate for a baby. Desperate for that miracle, that hope, that joy in their lives. I wanted to give that to them. I wanted them to have the family they were striving for. With my help, they would finally have everything they ever wanted. On the day I found out their little miracle was coming, fate intervened again. It would turn my world upside down, shattering my life into a million pieces. It was on that day I realised things were about to become really complicated. Review by Lorena Can I just start off with saying that the ending sure had a twist to it that I never in a million years expected. We get Alice who is a kind, loving, caring woman who will do anything for her husband and everything he wants especially when it comes to sexual favors. She submits to him even if she doesn't agree with what he wants. Kyle is Alice's husband a major jerk. He takes advantage of the fact that he has a great wife who never complains and submits to his every whim. When Alice decides that she wants to be a surrogate for her best friend and her husband, Kyle goes ballistic and is not happy with her decision. Alice in order to appease her husband and her friends, she allows her husband to purchase an expensive car just so he can agree with her decision. When Alice finally gets pregnant through artificial insemination, she's happy that she's going to make her friends happy, except that something that she totally wasn't expecting happens. Alice ends up being betrayed and she doesn't hesitate to seek a divorce without thinking about it twice. She realizes that she's just not in love with her husband anymore and she can't forgive him. She now needs to move on and care for this baby growing inside her. Ethan, Sarah's husband is there for her every step of the way in her pregnancy. He's loving and nurturing and everything that Alice wants in a man. What will happen with Alice and Ethan now that both Sarah and Kyle are out of the picture? Can they turn their friendship to something more on the romantic side or will they stay friends and figure a way to raise this baby? I totally didn't see this story turning the way it did at the end, but I am thrilled it did because it definitely left a different spin to a book that I'm not used to. And even though I'm used to reading dark books from this author, she does have a way to manipulate her softer books as well. She knows how to twist and turn the plot and will leave you going WTH in the end (but in a good way)! I have to say that this book was a 4.5 star read especially because of the ending :) About the Author Jaimie Roberts was born in London, but moved to Gibraltar in 2001.
