Have you ever felt like you were living your life for a future that was predetermined? Like there was some bigger picture you just prayed you would someday see clearly? That picture has been crystal clear to me since I was old enough to recognize it for just what it was. Or I should say recognize him for who he was. I’ve loved Cohen Cage since I was a small child. He’s been my everything for the last twenty-two years. I’ve loved him through every girlfriend he’s ever brought home. Through his college years and then mine. I’ve loved him through two deployments. And ever since the day I told him how I felt, he’s acted like I’m a stranger. My name is Danielle Reid, and it’s time for me to get my man. Our future is an unexpected fate, and no matter what our parents, siblings, and friends say…it’s going to be worth every second of the fight to make it happen. Review by Amanda Unexpected Fate is a follow on to the wildly succesful Corps Security Series. Unexpected Fate is also book number 1 in the new Hope Town Series, and is going to focus on the children of all those crazy alpha's from Corps Security. This book is Cohen Cage and Danielle Reid's story. As is expected, Axel makes his presence known from the start. It is heart warming and downright hilarious to watch him protect his little princess. "The hell is he talking about?" Daddy rumbles. "Uh, about that." " There better not be any of that to be about " he fumes. " what does that even mean?" I ask. "Don't you be smart with me. Start talking" - Unexpected Fate, Harper Sloan "He's told me since I was a little girl that I would never leave his house because I was his litttle princess, and if he couldn't watch out for me, then all the dirty, thieving, no-good men of the world would get their hand on me" - Unexpected Fate, Harper Sloan I have loved Cohen Cage since I met him, the little boy flying around with the cape talking about his dad's junk. I have to say I was a bit nervous about reading this book - the grown up Cohen Cage, but all I can say is HOT DAMN HARPER! Cohen Cage has grown into a man that will leave you weak at the knees and make you want to rip his clothes off. When we are first reintroduced to him, he is escorting Dani to her prom, the only "date" that Axel is willing to accept. They have a magical night together, but both know that it is only for that night. The story jumps ahead a few years later. Dani is still hopelessly in love with Cohen, and although he knows it, he pretends otherwise. He in turn is smitten with her, but because of the family dynamics, he doesn't want to pursue anything more than friends. Cohen is scheduled to return to war (he is a Marine just like his Dad) and he is in a special forces unit. He knows that this tour is going to be a long one, and has prepared his nearest and dearest for an absence of more than a year. This tour also means he has to go dark, and it means no communication for most of that time. A farewell party for Cohen leaves Dani putting her heart on the line and leaving it in Cohen's hands to determine whether the two will finally be together or go their separate ways. A night of passion happens between the two leaving Dani in precarious position. Cohen heads off to war and whilst he is away we get a glimpse into what his life is like in the desert. His head is not in the game and he longs to return home and be with Dani. Dani has meanwhile attracted the attention of an unwanted stalker. Her family is freaking out over her safety, they want her to move back home. Will Cohen return in time to save her? Do Cohen and Dani have a future? Will Axel support the relationship? What will happen to their Unexpected Fate? This book has it all - hilarity, angst, emotion and heartbreak. I loved it! I know I have said it before in this review, but I cannot help but say again how much I loved seeing a 50 year old Axel love his baby girl and try to protect her from everything life throws her way. The palpable emotion between Cohen and Dani is off the charts - the two have a smoking hot chemistry that cannot be denied! Let me also just say that Cohen is a dirty, dirty boy in the best possible way! "I've been madly in love with Cohen Cage since I was a little girl - I think I was six when I realised just how much I loved him and he was ten. That childhood crush has grown over the years into something that is so big - so sould consuming - that even I feel like it will crush me at times. And the worst part is that he's completely blind to it." - Unexpected Fate, Harper Sloan "Every time he swallows, his jaw flexes in this sexy way I've never been able to control lusting over. Jaw Porn. With Cohen, it's a very real thing. " - Unexpected Fate, Harper Sloan "When it comes to love, it's always worth the sacrifice. Always. One thing my parents taught me was that when you find the reason for your heart to beat, you don't ever let it go, and if for some reason beyond your control, you have to, you fight with every breath in your body to have it back. You are worth that to me. You aren't asking me to give anything up, Cohen. I've loved you my whole damn life... What's a few more months of waiting if I know you're coming back to me?" - Unexpected Fate, Harper Sloan If you have read the Corps Security Series, then you will also be welcoming with open arms many familiar faces - including all of those alpha men and of course our beloved Sway. Seeing them as middle aged men with grown children is really a wonderful bonus to this series! I loved it. This book is written in dual perspective and we get to experience things both through Dani and Cohen's eyes. Although not usually a fan of this style of writing, it works for this story. I loved it. I am giving this fabulous book 4 and a half amazing stars! It really took me on a roller coaster ride of emotions and I loved every minute of it. Cohen is the ultimate alpha male who will make you sweat and swoon. Dani is the perfect amount of sassiness, sultryness and softness. I cannot wait to read the rest of this series - it is definitely another smash for the amazing Harper Sloan.
