STARS
by Malorie Verdant
Coming APRIL 30th!
He changed my life.
With a smile, a flick of his wrist and a death-defying stunt.
He was six and I was five.
And now, thirteen years later, I am hopelessly in love.
There is only a slight problem.
He doesn’t know I exist.
He’s the star quarterback.
I’m a science nerd who hides in the shadows.
I don’t need anyone to tell me that college won't change anything.
I know he’s the star of this story.
And I belong in the audience.
Parker Elliot is going to Penmore State University miles away from home. She's leaving her small town because Penmore has a fantastic science department, because she needs to begin exploring the life she wants to lead and because Grayson Waters is the starting quarterback for the Penmore Herons.
Grayson Waters at first glance lives life to the fullest, but he is dealing with more than meets the eye. A con artist father in trouble with local mobsters, an illegitimate brother living close by, the pressure of leading his team to the championship game and a desire to pursue a career outside the football field. Decisions need to be made. For Gray, slipping into the shadows with a pretty and observant brunette might be just what he needs to finally make the right ones.

I first started reading romance when I was twelve.
My mother handed me her copy of Nora Robert’s Midnight Bayou and with resignation said, “Here you’ll love it, just skip the sex scenes or at least tell me you did.”
She knew I was young and she hoped I didn’t understand the diverse innuendos, but she also saw early on that I was a hopeless romantic and had a joy and thirst for romance novels that not even she and her protective motherly instincts could stop.

When I look up, there she is, standing near the hotel entrance and looking straight at me. She’s wearing a white tank top and cutoff jeans. Her skin is sun kissed and she has a bright smile on her face. She’s easily the most beautiful woman in this hotel. Hell, in this state. I instantly jump up and start walking toward her. As I approach, I see the tears rolling down her cheeks, and then she’s running toward me. When she finally reaches me, she jumps into my arms and holds on tight. My arms encircle her and I hold her as close to me as humanly possible, enveloping her with everything I have. A sob escapes her and she starts laughing, and I can’t help but laugh too. I have missed this girl so much. More than I even realized. But the dreadful fear that this is only temporary fills my stomach. I want to hold on to her forever, and never let her go. I don't want her to know what I'm thinking, so I force myself to concentrate on how good it feels to have her back in my arms. “Goddamn, baby I’ve missed you.” I inhale her scent as I hold her close. “I missed you too.” She says and pulls back, looking up at me. “You’re scruffy.” “I meant to shave, but I woke a little late.” She makes the scrunched up nose face at me and I can’t help but laugh. “I kind of like it.” She touches my face softly before pulling me into her for a kiss. It’s a relief because I was so worried about whether or not she would allow me to kiss her, to hold her, or to tell her how much I love her. The feeling of her lips touching mine is perfect, the moment frozen in time. I never want it to end. After a while, a minute or an hour, I'm not sure which, she pulls back and slides down my body before her feet land on the marble tile of the hotel lobby. She looks so beautiful and all I can think about is the one thing I want to do right now. Take her back to my room and show her how much I’ve missed her. Lay her out on my bed and worship every inch of her. “How long are you here for?” She asks me. “As long as you’re here, I’m here.” She laughs at this, “I have somewhere to be tonight, but would you like to go someplace now? Talk? Eat? Whatever! I miss you like crazy.” “My room? Beach?” “Oh Lord, not the beach, if I go back I may die from sun exposure, we’ve been there every day thanks to Jamie.” “Ok. My room it is.” I look around for Jamie. “She’ll be fine. She is canceling her flight. And then she has to make some calls.” I nod and we set off for the elevators. “What do you have to do tonight?” I ask while enjoying the feel of her and in mine as we walk hand in hand. “I’m meeting someone. Family, I never knew I had. I found her last week, and she’s agreed to meet me tonight at her workplace.” “Who is it?” “I’ll explain later. Let’s get upstairs. I really want to hear about you.” “I’m perfect Kollie, just missing you.” “I miss you too.” She says as she turns to me in the elevator that's taking us to the sixth floor. Her eyes are haunted like they are hiding secrets that she wants to share, but she can't. I can tell that she's struggling, that she wants to express her true feelings. I pull her face to mine and kiss her deeply. Her hands go to my hair, and she runs her fingers through it, softly massaging my scalp. Without evening thinking about it, I instinctively lift her up into my arms and press her back against the elevator wall. Her legs wrap around my waist as I grip her delectable ass and squeeze. Trying to get myself under control, I break away just long enough to whisper in her ear how very much I love her.
