Betting on Sin
-- EXCERPT: I watch as his eyes widen, and he bites his bottom lip for a moment. And I watch as he sits still. I watch him…not backing away, not stopping me from what we both know I’m doing. I close my eyes, too scared of the rejection I know is coming. Call me a coward, I don’t care anymore. I close my eyes and hover in front of his face, waiting. I want to go the rest of the way; I want to so badly, I can feel the need of it prickling all over. But I don’t. I cant. Not yet. Instead, I wait for him to show me somehow, tell me, that this is what he wants too. His hands find mine then, his fingers moving to intertwine with mine, and he leans forward. It’s just an inch. It’s not the rest of the way to me, doesn’t close the whole distance. But it’s enough. It’s enough to show me that we’re in this together. That I haven’t made everything up in my mind. That he wants me too. So I go for it. I close the last bit of space between us until my lips crash into his. And it’s like…I don’t know how to describe it. It’s like nothing I’ve ever felt before. Even though it’s only a kiss, nothing else. But it feels like home. Like what I’ve been waiting for my whole life. Like nothing in the universe has been this right.

3.5 Heart Review by Ashley After seeing the cover and blurb for Hostile Territory, I knew this was going to be my first read from Marie James. I had high hopes for some major romantic suspense and while there was some danger, it wasn't as high octane as I was expecting. That being said, I was still swept up in the dynamic and undeniable yearning between Deacon and Anna. I liked that these two had a messy past. And even after not seeing or talking to one another for almost a decade, that hostility was still there. Strong and fiery as ever. But there was something that wasn't there the last time these two saw each other; attraction. The pull was strong. And they tried to fight it. Oh did they try. But as the danger mounted all Deacon wanted to was to keep Anna close. There was so much back and forth between Anna and Deacon that I honestly had no idea if they would ever get on the same page. All I kept thinking to myself talk to each other! Stop playing games. Stop worrying about what the others intentions are and confess your own truth! With a foul-mouthed bird, toxic relationships, buckets of anticipation and a mobster on the prowl, Hostile Territory kept me on my toes. Though, I have to say that for as much of a build up as there was to solving the mystery, how things played out was a bit anticlimactic. I wanted more danger. More tension. But it was the way Deacon finally stepped up and admitted what was in his heart that made me (and Anna) melt. Marie James laid the groundwork with the cast of characters in this book and I can't wait to see where she takes the protective bunch next.

Goodreads / Amazon / Barnes & Noble / iBooks / Kobo / Google Play -- EXCERPT: “You’re sitting at my desk.” She put the pot on the reception desk and folded her arms. Sam shuffled his papers, spreading them across the polished wood surface for no reason other than to keep his gaze off her distractingly perfect breasts. “I didn’t see your name on it.” “Just look at your lease. You’ll see it written across the top, or can’t you read big words like Patel?” “I don’t recall seeing any identification,” he countered. “For all I know, you could have just walked in off the street. You’re certainly not dressed like you’re running a business.” Eyes blazing, she glared. “What’s wrong with how I’m dressed?” “An apron and a pink tracksuit with Juicy written across the ass are hardly serious business attire and they certainly don’t scream swipe right on desi Tinder.” Sam didn’t know if there was such a thing as Tinder for people of South Asian descent living abroad, but if it did exist, he and Layla would definitely not have been a match. Layla gave a growl of frustration. “You may be surprised to hear that I don’t live my life seeking male approval. I’m just getting over a breakup so I’m a little bit fragile. Last night, I went out with Daisy and drank too much, smoked something I thought was a cigarette, danced on a speaker, and fell onto some loser named Jimbo, whose girlfriend just happened to be an MMA fighter and didn’t like to see me sprawled on top of her man. We had a minor physical altercation and I was kicked out of the bar. Then I got dumped on the street by my Uber driver because I threw up in his cab. So today, I just couldn’t manage office wear. It’s called self-care, and we all need it sometimes. Danny certainly didn’t mind.” Danny certainly didn’t mind.” “Who’s Danny?” The question came out before he could stop it. “Someone who appreciates all I’ve got going here…” She ran a hand in and out of her generous curves. “… and isn’t hung up on trivial things like clothes.” She tugged off the apron and folded it on the crock-pot. “I’m not hung up on clothes either,” Sam teased. “When I’m with a woman I prefer her to have no clothes at all.” “You’re disgusting.” Layla grabbed her crock-pot and donuts and marched into the small kitchen at the back of the office. Sam heard cupboards bang. Cutlery clatter. Angry mutters and a huff. A few minutes later Layla marched back out with a bowl of dal in one hand and two donuts circling her finger like rings. Only when she sat down and proceeded to eat one of the donuts off her finger did he realize he hadn’t done any work since she walked in. “Donuts and dal are not two foods that naturally go together,” he pointed out. Layla took a giant bite and licked her lips. “Do you not have work to do? Or are you just going to sit there and look pretty?”
GIVEAWAY! Why Can’t Freshman Summer Be Like Pizza? by Andy V. Roamer- Book Blitz with Excerpt & Giveaway6/27/2020 Why Can’t Freshman Summer Be Like Pizza?
Goodreads / Amazon / Barnes & Noble / Kobo -- EXCERPT: Bobby and I sat there for a while, not saying anything, just enjoying being together, feeling like we were watching the whole world but not letting the world see us. “So? Was this worth the bike ride and the climb?” Bobby finally asked. “You bet. I love finding special places. Like the place in the woods not far from my house. It’s a good place to think and dream.” Bobby nodded. “Yeah. I discovered this spot when I came to the park with my folks. They just wanted to sit and relax on the hill, so I went exploring.” “Yes, exploring is good. Where would we be in life without exploring!” I laughed and gave Bobby a nudge. He nudged me back. “Now I’ve shown you a good place to think and dream too.” I nodded, and we sat quietly for a long time, just happy looking out at Boston and being next to each other. Bobby put his hand on mine and it reminded me again of the first time he had touched me in the spring. The crazy, amazing feeling that went through my whole body. I know it’s stupid to say, but it was like I became alive in a new way. Even though that jolt of excitement lasted only a few seconds, I’ll never forget it. It was great to experience the feeling again. Bobby’s gentle touch on my hand probably didn’t mean much to him, but to me it meant a lot, especially that things were good between us. It was one of those moments in life when everything seems perfect. Just the way it’s supposed to be. I wanted to stay there forever with Bobby’s hand on mine. Then I remembered something. “Hey, Bobby!” I exclaimed, turning to him. “What?” “It’s the summer solstice!” Bobby looked puzzled. “The longest day of the year. When the sun is exactly over the Tropic of Cancer. It happens every year between June 20 and 22. And this year it’s today.” Bobby suddenly laughed. “Oh, RV. You should go on a game show!” My cheeks were getting hot. Carole calls it the RV Blush. When I’m really embarrassed about something, my face turns bright-red. And I was really embarrassed by my nerd part coming out in front of Bobby of all people. Bobby was still laughing. “I believe you. I really do.” He put his arm around me and gave me a little hug. “Being with you, I learn all these crazy things. That’s why I like you.” “Don’t these long days make you feel good?” I said, more quietly. “Summer stretching out ahead. It makes me feel optimistic. Like I’ll have time to live my life, and not just do homework. Or chores. Or other things I’m forced to do. Summer is for us.”

At the far side of the lot is a large silver van. Three figures stand near it, silhouetted by a street light. They appear to be talking, laughing even, and passing something between them. A puff of smoke billows out around one of the menâs heads and gets swept away, dissolving into the breeze.
I recognize the relaxed posture and the way Logan runs his hand through his hair.
âThatâs them.â
âYou sure about this?â Kyla asks, her voice higher than normal.
Nope.
âYeah.â
Wasnât she the one convincing me to do this earlier? Itâs okay, I can hype myself. Once a cheerleader, always a cheerleader, right? Iâm only about to leave in a dark van from a seedy motel in the middle of the night with four men I donât know.
Am I being kidnapped?
I reach for the handle, and if I thought my heart was racing before, itâs now a jackhammer against my ribs as I open the door and climb out of the car.

4.5 Heart Review by Lorena
I loved everything about this book, starting with the cover to the story to the characters. Sebastian and Trixie's chemistry was just so out of this world. From the moment they met that chemistry began but they didn't explore it right away. Trixie was just so fixated with Sebastian and she wanted more to life than just stripping. She needed more and when she got to explore the BDSM with Sebastian she knew that's what she was missing and she was missing it with the man she had a thing for. Sebastian was a little sketchy at first but I suppose you could say it's because of his past. I just have to say that although this book was not heavy on the BDSM it still had a great deal of it but it was more tame. I still enjoyed reading about Sebastian and Trixie. I was addicted to this story!

They call me the King of Dynex, architect of the company’s crown jewel: the world’s largest scientific website. Half the company loves me, the other can’t stand me—when you’ve got your sights set on bigger things, it comes with the territory. Bonus: My ice-cold reputation hides my broken heart.
If Dynex pulls off its upcoming public offering, my best friend and I will be swimming in corporate stock, free to launch our own company. Now more than ever, I need to be focused. I don’t need a distraction like Jasmine Carmichael, a gorgeous consultant with honey-almond skin and a killer smile.

Ever had any luck with dating apps? No? Girl, same. I don’t play games. One, my travel schedule as a consultant doesn’t allow it. And two, at the first hint I’m an old-fashioned girl in search of romance, I’m ghosted.
I shouldn’t be attracted to six-three of citrine-eyed, muscular, urban sophistication like Garrett Hamilton. He’s a client, and clients are definitely out of my dating pool. But something about him makes me want to ignore the rules and roll the dice.
I should have remembered corporate games never end well—especially when you gamble with your heart.

That’s when he did it. His left hand unbuttoned his right sleeve, and he carefully folded the cuff to his inner elbow. He then folded the bottom until it reached the top of his cuff, revealing the cords rippling through his muscular, tanned forearms.
My heart raced, and as much as I tried, I couldn’t look away. The small, effortless move was so sexy. A short exhalation left my chest as I stared.
Yeah. We’ll be getting a lot of work done.
Still standing, he smoothed the edges of the folds. He smirked in an annoyingly self-confident way that dampened my panties. Then he repeated the action on his right arm. This time, he met my gaze and took his time rolling the sleeve, flexing the muscles in his forearms when he did it.
He knew he was turning me on. And he enjoyed it!
I imagined that I appeared wide-eyed and breathless while I squirmed in my seat.
My god. Could this be more embarrassing?

My heart is banging on the walls of my chest, as I stand here with my breasts and my ass hanging out of my silk nightgown. Knox watches me like heâs waiting for me to make a move and grab the blanket that lies at my feet. I look down at it, but Iâm frozen in place.
I force myself not to look up. Not to look over at the perfectly sculpted body that stands just a few feet away fromâmore so, the bulge thatâs growing in his boxers. I keep my head down, struggling to speak. âI...Iâm sorry, I thought the house would be empty. If I had known you were staying here...â
âDonât apologize,â he interrupts me. Walking over to my side, he bends over, reaching for the blanket. I can feel the burn of his eyes singe down my body, as he reaches for it, starting with my breasts and ending at my toes. He comes back up, and if my heavy breathing werenât a big enough sign of my pent-up sexual deprivation, my trembling legs are.
With one hand, he swings the blanket over my shoulders and the scent of whiskey and sweet cinnamon rolls off of him. I can tell heâs had enough liquor to intoxicate us both, as he stumbles to the side. I place a helping hand on him to catch his fall, as he slowly lowers down to a sitting position on the all-white sofa. âAre you alright?â
âIâm golden. Feeling pretty damn good right about now.â His bloodshot eyes fight to stay open.
âYou donât look so good. Let me get you some water.â I attempt to walk away, but his hand on my wrist has me frozen once again. I look down at his fingers wrapped around me and feel enamored by his touch.
Heâs a kid, Claire. Stop this.
Iâm not sure why Knox has this effect on me. Itâs like nothing Iâve ever felt before. Itâs so wrong, but everything about being near him feels so right. Heâs like a drug that I want to inhale, just to see how it makes me feel. It could destroy meâor, it can free me from myself.
He uses his grip on me to pull himself up. âKnox,â I mutter into the empty space between us.
He takes a step closer and leans in, his chest pressed against mine, as he whispers in my ear, âDonât go.â

âIâm surprised you didnât get sick of me always bugging you to dance then.â Iâd been relentless and he always did as I asked. My father joked Iâd had him wrapped around my finger, a place I wanted him to always remain, even if that was selfish.
âI didnât mind.â
âYou never used toââ I squealed when he lifted me up and guided my feet to his shoes where they rested as soon as he dropped me back down, then started laughing when he kept dancing just like that. Like the old times.
âI enjoyed those days, Della,â he told me honestly, his face drawing back ever so slightly until his breath caressed the side of my face.
âYou did?â
Half his lips quirked up. âI did. Those were simpler times when there was nothing heavy to worry about.â
I licked my lips as his nose grazed mine. My heart sped in my chest as I closed my eyes again and willed him to close the gap between our lips, but it never came. So I said, âThings now are certainly complicated because of my fatherâ¦â
His sigh was felt in my soul, heavy and burdened, and I wanted to know his thoughts. âIt isnât just your father that makes things complicated now.â
âIt isnât?â
A pause. âNo, Della, it isnât.â
