Excerpt from Take It Off the Menu
And then he looked at her like he’d done at the tattoo parlor. Like he wanted to kiss her. And okay, maybe she was off her game, but a guy didn’t get that flicker in his eyes for just anyone.
She was going to do it. Kiss him. Make sure she still had it.
Step five, kiss Eli (and enjoy it).
Before he could say anything, she stood on her tiptoes and lightly pressed her lips to his. Testing. Seeing if that’s what he wanted.
He kissed her back.
Oh boy, did he kiss her back.
His tongue slid along the seam of her lips, his arms wrapped around her, and holy hell, her toes were actually curling. But this wasn’t that kind of kiss. Not for long, anyway. This was the kind of kiss she hadn’t had in years. The kind lit by pure desire and exploration. The kind that meant nothing and everything, because in that moment, it was both.
She melted into his embrace and let him do what he wanted to her. Tonight was all about nothing. And it was about everything. It was about Eli.
Mostly, though…it was about her.

Thick badge, big gun, fond of handcuffs.
One sassy little thief is about to get all tangled up with the growliest, most alpha law-man on Blackthorn Mountain.
And it’s not just the arm of the law that’s long and hard…
First she was my bride, now she’s my fugitive. I was a rough, stone-cold cop when she said “I do”—driven hard to hunt, to seek, to lock down. And Lucy was the tempting little firecracker in my black and white, right or wrong world.
Except there was more to Lucy than met the eye, and pretty soon, her sins and the law tore us apart. And for two years, I’ve been looking for my runaway bride.
But now, I’ve found her, hiding out on Blackthorn Mountain. Gorgeous, sassy, headstrong and temping as fuck. I’m supposed to drag her bratty little ass to jail. But when I get my first look, feel, and taste of her in two damn years, no duty or law in this word is going to keep me from taking back what’s mine.
She owes money to some very, very not nice people, and they’re out for blood. But there’s more trouble than that brewing on Blackthorn Mountain. Every demon, every buried secret, every loose thread—every one of the outlaws up on the mountain’s past is coming for them, and the battle for Blackthorn is about to hit hard.
If these bastards want Lucy? Well, they’re going to have to come through me first. And if they want Blackthorn Mountain?
Well, they’re about to learn that outlaw mountain hits back even harder.
Lucy ran from me once. It’s not going to happen again.

When my sight cleared and I finally got a look at him, I froze. Shock bulldozed into my body, nearly pushing me back had I not been gripping his flesh.Black spots scattered across my vision, and for a second, I thought I’d faint—and it would still be less mortifying than this. Anything would be less mortifying than this. It was almost too much to process. To make it worse, he was still inside me. This wasn’t Reed Prescott. This was a six-foot-two, hazel-eyed Adonis with short black hair and bedroom eyes that made you picture him naked if you looked long enough. Only he was actually naked and, I repeat, still. Inside. Me. Nash Prescott. Reed’s older brother. His nearly thirty-year-old brother. “You’re soaking my brother’s bed,” Nash remarked as he leaned back against his pillow and took in the sight of me. He looked annoyed, liked I was a pest who had royally fucked up his weekend plans. “You—I—What—” I floundered, my mouth opening and closing like a fish. You slept with Nash Prescott. Nash Fucking Prescott. And it felt amazing. Don’t freak out. Don’t freak out. Don’t freak out. I was totally freaking out. Nash raked his fingers through his hair, leaned over to snatch my robe, and tossed it to me. “Just fucking relax, would you? You’d think the goddamn orgasm would loosen you up.” For a split second, all I could think was, you weren’t always like this. Perhaps to other girls, but never to me. Nash was a fierce protector, the guy who would stop by my table with his brown paper lunch bag when my mom ‘forgot’ to give me lunch money. And while we’d rarely talked, even when he would share his lunch, I always took comfort in knowing I had two protectors—Reed and Nash. I don’t recognize you anymore. The words sat at the tip of my tongue. I would never release them. That was Reed’s hill to die on. I cared because I hated the way Nash stared at me sometimes, accusations stabbing me from his eyes. Snide comments I would never ask him about because I was loyal to Reed, and even talking to Nash felt like picking the wrong side. I wanted to take a few seconds to study Nash, to process my mortification, to enjoy the aftershocks of my first orgasm, yet all I could feel was Nash’s overwhelming gravitational pull, one more dangerous than that of any other boy I’d ever met. But Nash Prescott wasn’t a boy. He was a man. One who made me feel like the little girl I’d convinced myself I wasn’t. My arms slipped through the robe. The second the tie wrapped around my waist, my body solidified. My underwear remained lost somewhere, but at least I was covered. I ignored the sting of his derision, shook my head, and pushed aside the embarrassment. “Did you know?” The sharp accusation unfazed him. He stretched his arms, drawing my attention to the deep V of his body. I clenched around him. A reflex. My mortified eyes flicked up in time to catch his cocked brow. “I figured it out when you moaned my brother’s name while coming around my cock.”

Goodreads / Amazon / Barnes & Noble / iBooks / Kobo / Bookbub -- EXCERPT: My bride is sexy hot. And no, the man whose arm she’s holding onto as she walks isn’t her father. And none of these people here are our people—but in this moment I do not care. Emma. Emma is the only thing on my mind. I want this woman by my side right now. I want her next to me for the rest of my life. I want her in sickness and in health. I’ll take all the bad with the good. I want to love and cherish her so hard, she will forget the thirteen years we spent apart and only think of the ones we spent together. Her veil only covers her eyes. It’s a very tasteful, very understated veil. But the best thing about that veil is that as I watch her walk towards me—as I see her suddenly realize that this is it, we really are gonna make it all the way through this ceremony—I catch her checking me out. I catch her eyes wandering down my body, then back up to meet my gaze again. She smiles and bites her lip. And man, that little lip-biting thing? Yeah. I’m gonna picture that every time I make love to her for the rest of my life. My stomach flips with excitement once they reach the steps and all I want to do is rush down those steps and pull her into my arms. But I wait. I force myself to stand still and wait as her fake father pauses to look lovingly at her—nice touch, fake father-in-law—and then she ascends towards me. Emma’s eyes find mine as she slowly approaches the altar. And then she shrugs up her shoulders as if a tingle went up her body. God, I love her. I love her so much. And even though I still have regrets about missing out on all those years when we were apart, I know—I just feel it in my heart—that this is just the beginning for us. We have so much to look forward to. And pretty soon none of those missing years will matter anymore. We’ll be too busy making new memories to even think about the ones we never had. When they reach the top her fake father stops just a step away from me, turns to Emma, and lifts her small veil up and says something low and soft in Italian. Emma nods her head at him and murmurs, “Thank you.” Then she turns to me. I reach for her and she takes my hand, stepping forward to stand next to me as we both face each other in front of this chapel filled with people. It’s only then that we realize… the priest is speaking in Italian. Both of us giggle. Fuck it, right? What did we really expect? And surely, this day could not get any weirder. We hold hands as he speaks, probably saying all the usual things. Marriage is serious. Marriage is a lifelong commitment. Marriage is sacred. Yes. I agree to all those things. I hold Emma’s hands in mine as the ceremony proceeds. And I even hear a sniffle or two from our audience. Nice touch, Fingers. Nice touch. And even though everything here started out fake, suddenly everything feels very, very real. I am marrying this woman. The priest pauses, and when we look at him we realize we’re up. We didn’t discuss this. We have no vows! And even though everyone else is working off a script, we’re just winging it. Emma looks a little frightened. Her eyes are wide and her pouty lips are making a perfect, round, o shape. I squeeze her hand. “I got you, babe.” Then I clear my throat and begin. “Emma Dumas. I first met you thirteen years ago. We were young, and one of us was very stupid.” She smiles wide and sucks in a breath of air. “Me,” I say, looking out at the crowd. And hey, they get it. Because they chuckle a little at my joke. “But I don’t think I ever told you how you grabbed my attention that day. I saw you from across Mallory Square. You were wearing little Daisy Duke cut-offs and a white tank top. And, of course, those now infamous pigtails.” She squeezes my hands as she shakes her head and looks down for a moment. But she quickly raises her eyes back up to meet mine. Like she refuses to miss a single moment of our big minute. “And Emma, I thought to myself… ‘Jesse Boston—’” A slight murmur from the crowd makes me pause for a moment. I guess they didn’t know who I was and now they do. Jesse Boston is the same no matter what language you say it in. “I said, ‘Jesse Boston, how in the heck have you been on this island for a week and are just now seeing this girl?’ You see,” I say to the crowd, “I missed her. And I hated that. I really hated that. Because up until that moment when I first saw this vision of a girl, I was doing nothing. I was nothing. I was wasting time, and taking up space, and couldn’t even begin to imagine what the next thirteen minutes would bring, let alone the next thirteen years. So I took my chance.” I turn back to Emma. “I went up to your shaved ice stand and asked you out. It was probably not my best pick-up. But Emma, I just want you to know… it was my most honest one.” She lowers her eyes again. And when they rise up to meet mine just a moment later, I see the shine of a tear in them. “It was… honest. Every moment with you that night was honest. And when we reconnected thirteen years later, every moment that came after was honest too. You not only make me want to be a better man, I am a better man with you by my side.” I bring her hand up to my lips and I gently kiss her fingers. “Thank you. Thank you for seeing the better me. Thank you for buying me from a bachelor auction with grand delusions of revenge. Thank you for the one-up dream date. Thank you for sharing your family with me. Thank you for being my knight in shining armor… just…” I shake my head. “Babe? I can’t do this without you.” She inhales deeply, lets go of one of my hands to swipe a tear off her cheek, and then says, “Jesse Boston. You were my fantasy man when we first met. You were the man who made all the promises. You were a boy so golden I could barely stand to look at you.” I sigh. Because I didn’t feel good enough for her back then. I was so afraid she’d see through me. So afraid she’d realize what a fraud I was. So afraid that she’d figure me out and sneak away, thankful that she dodged a bullet with a boy called Jesse. “And when you disappeared, I was lost. I was someone else when you left. Some other girl who no longer understood her place in this world. And for the next thirteen years I would think about you at least once a day. I would think… what could we have been? What life would we have lived if we had stayed together from the start? If we had never gone out and did our thing, by ourselves, on our own?” She squeezes my hands. “And you know what?” “What?” I whisper, dying to know what she thinks about this. “We might’ve been that couple.” I laugh a little. That couple. “We might have been that couple you described on our second-chance first date last summer. The one who fights hard, and lives fast, and loves each other ferociously.” “Love is a battlefield, babe. And we’re both just generals.”

My heart has held a place for him since I was fifteen years old. I never thought Iâd actually be friends with him, let alone friends who held hands.
When we get to the library, I unfortunately have to unclasp our fingers so I can get my keys and open the door. I turn to tell him thank you when he pushes the door open and motions for me to precede him. âGaââ
âGo.â He interrupts me, and instead of arguing, I go in and turn on the lights. After I set my purse beneath my desk, I stand fully and twitch at the shock of seeing him so close. âIâm gonna take off. You done at six?â
âYou donât need to waââ
âCady, baby, I donât do anything I donât want to. So stop telling me what I donât need when I know exactly what I want.â
My breath freezes in my throat at the implication.
âSo Iâll ask again, are you off at six?â
Unable to form a sentence, I simply nod.
And then he leans forward, just slightly, and I jump when his hand slides through my hair and his fingers cradle my head. His lips ever so gently brush against my cheek, and he glides his hand out of my hair, down my neck, and halfway over my collarbone before he lifts it again and cups my jaw, then runs his thumb across my lower lip. âLater, sugar.â

Leslie Wilder grew up in a small town in West Tennessee. A country girl at heart, she’s always thought that life is too short, but she had no idea how short it really was until her brother passed away in 2014. She’s always been an avid reader, loving the escape only a great book can give, and wondered if she had what it took to write one of the wild romances she’d come to adore. With the support of her family and friends, she published Inferno: A Devil Chaser’s MC, one year after her brother’s death. With him in mind, she fulfilled her lifetime dream of writing. Since then, she’s completed the Devil Chaser’s Series and continued on with the Satan’s Fury MC Series. She has so many stories in her head, and can’t wait to share each and every one.
Leslie has been blown away by the support of her readers, appreciating every message, review, and encouraging word she’s received over the past year. She looks forward to continuing this journey with them for years to come.

He’s everything our town knows a Becker brother to be: devastatingly handsome, charming as a thief, and the icing on the cake — a sentimental musician who’s never without his guitar. And he was mine. At least, that’s what I’d convinced myself. Our bond was born in elementary school, strengthened by circumstance and the promise to always be there for each other, no matter what. And the best thing about my life was being friends with Michael Becker. Until it was the worst. I watched him fall in love with someone else, and helped patch him back up when she left him behind. But when he drops the bomb that he’s moving to New York, I realize it’s my last chance to tell him how I feel. And I ask him to make one more promise. One summer. One list of adventures to remind him that our small town has more to offer than memories of the girl who left him behind. One last chance to tell him I’m in love with him. And I’m just dumb enough to believe that maybe he could love me, too. You'll love this book if you love:

4 Heart Review by Ashley
The queen of angst has struck again! Kandi Steiner I bow down to you and your ability to tear my heart to bits only to build it back up stronger than before. Case in point, Manhattan, the youngest Becker brother's book. I thought I was ready...I wasn't. I connected with Mikey so much. I got his pain. His suffering. How he just wasn't himself after his breakup. How the loss of his first love felt like his heart wouldn't beat in rhythm again. Thank goodness he had Kylie. A ray of sunshine in his darkness. I adored this girl so much. Her kindness. Her positivity. How she took care of her dad. How she loved Mikey. Deeply. Fully. Unconditionally. If only he would see her as more than his best friend... My heart is just so full after finishing this book. While it took a few harsh turns and got stuck in the mud a time or two, the angst was so dang worth the chest ache. Manhattan was the sweetest friends-to-lovers romance. Kylie and Mikey are everything. Their slow-burning journey was heartfelt and painful at times. But it was so pure and full of love that it will make you swoon for days.
About Kandi: Kandi Steiner is a bestselling author and whiskey connoisseur living in Tampa, FL. Best known for writing “emotional rollercoaster” stories, she loves bringing flawed characters to life and writing about real, raw romance — in all its forms. No two Kandi Steiner books are the same, and if you’re a lover of angsty, emotional, and inspirational reads, she’s your gal. An alumna of the University of Central Florida, Kandi graduated with a double major in Creative Writing and Advertising/PR with a minor in Women’s Studies. She started writing back in the 4th grade after reading the first Harry Potter installment. In 6th grade, she wrote and edited her own newspaper and distributed to her classmates. Eventually, the principal caught on and the newspaper was quickly halted, though Kandi tried fighting for her “freedom of press.” She took particular interest in writing romance after college, as she has always been a diehard hopeless romantic, and likes to highlight all the challenges of love as well as the triumphs. When Kandi isn’t writing, you can find her reading books of all kinds, talking with her extremely vocal cat, and spending time with her friends and family. She enjoys live music, traveling, anything heavy in carbs, beach days, movie marathons, craft beer and sweet wine — not necessarily in that order.
