About IN OTHER WORDS:Dexter
We became close friends in college. When Sinclair returns home to Dallas after two years in New York, I introduce her to my best friend Cole. The good-looking playboy ballplayer is the perfect kind of guy for the woman I'm sure would never be interested in me...even if seeing them together breaks my heart.
Sinclair.
He was the nerdy PhD candidate. I was the cheerleader. We made unlikely friends. Moving back home after two years away, he looks hotter than ever. When I start dating his ballplayer best friend, things get complicated. He doesn't see me as girlfriend material...but I can't get him, or my feelings for him, out of my head.

“See, when I was a kid, I really liked hockey. Seven-year-old Colton was a Gretzky man, ya see. Do you know what amazing thing Gretzky is known for saying?”
He steps forward and cups my jaw in his palm. “You miss one hundred percent of the shots you don’t take,” I reply. It’s a lesson learned from my father, who loves every kind of sport you can imagine. Cole’s brows knit then his lips curl up into a smile. “Damn, Sinclair. Funny, smart, sexy as fuck, and can quote Gretzky? Are you sure Dexter didn’t whip you up in his lab?” I shrug, and can’t help but smile back at him. “Dad’s a sports fan.” “Well, he’s a smart guy. So yeah, you miss one hundred percent of the shots you don’t take. Call me an optimist, but I’m taking a shot here,” he wags his finger back and forth between us. “And I don’t plan to miss.” I have to admit; his confidence is a turn-on. “Come on,” he says, nodding his head to the side as we head back so he can show me his locker. Cole gives me a behind-the-scenes tour that would be my Dad’s dream come true. When we get to the case that holds dozens of trophies and awards, I swallow my pride and ask Cole to take a photo of me in front of the two Commissioner’s Trophies from the team’s World Series wins. He snaps a couple with my phone, then steps beside me, draping an arm around my shoulder and pulling me close to take a selfie with me. After we tour the offices and the players’ area, he takes me by an equipment locker, and pulls out a couple of bats and helmets. We walk over to the practice area, and Cole takes me into the pitching machine cage. He puts the helmet on my head and hands me a bat. “Okay, so you’ve done this before?” He asks. “At the batting cages next to the go-kart track, sure. Not in something like this,” I reply. “I’m not sure I’m ready for this.” “Don’t worry. I can turn it way down. This thing doesn’t pitch as fast as I do,” he grins and winks. He knows he’s good at what he does for a living, and that’s not cockiness, it’s just a fact. He drops the other bat on the ground in the corner and returns to where I’m standing. “Okay, let me see your stance.” I put the bat up, choke my hands together, and lean forward, jutting my ass out and giving it a little wiggle. Cole crosses his arms and puts one hand up to his chin. “That’s not bad, actually,” he says with a chuckle. He steps behind me and I stand upright as he wraps arms around me to show me how to hold the bat. He puts one hand on my shoulder and one on my hip as he bends me forward so I’m in the proper stance for batting, but I can’t help but notice that it would be the proper stance for something else as I feel him graze my backside ever so slightly. “This feels exactly the same as what I was doing before,” I say. “It totally is, but I got to feel your ass while I got you into position,” he says, grinning mischievously. “Okay, you ready?”
