She’s in a white dress that dances around her ankles, and her hair tumbles in a long sheet of curls down her back. A veil covers her beautiful eyes, and she smiles directly at him. Janie is everything Rafe’s ever imagined she would be on her wedding day.
Breathtaking. Gorgeous. Perfect.
The moment he sees her walking down the aisle towards him, he knows that she’s the one.
Then she passes him, making her way to the man she’s to marry.
A man that wasn’t him.
A man that he knows with one hundred percent certainty isn’t good enough for her.
It seems that her father isn’t the only one who’s having a hard time giving her away. Rafe only wishes he knew why.
Everything about Janie sparks protective instincts he doesn’t feel for anyone, not even his own fiancé.
What he feels for the bride, however, isn’t merely a simple attraction. He knows that something is there just beneath the surface…if only he could reach it.
It has to be something huge, too, otherwise he wouldn’t be drinking whiskey straight from the flask in a church pew and wondering how many years he would do in prison if he shot the groom in front of about a hundred witnesses—half of those being cops.
He was good…but not that good.
A near-death experience cost Rafe almost six months of his memory, but right now he can’t help but feel like a huge mistake is being made on both of their parts. One that’s going to cost him everything.
Then she says I do.
3.5 Star Review by Ashley
If I've said it once, I've said it two hundred times- I am always looking for new romantic suspense authors. Throw the military man aspect, even better. Kinda Don't Care was my first title from Lani Lynn Vale and it was ok. I could tell that this was some sort of spinoff to another book/series that I hadn't read so some of the references in the book had me confused but the main story line between Janie and Rafe was pretty easy to follow. I enjoyed that despite the age difference Janie and Rafe were on the page. They both knew what they did and didn't want. Years of longing upped the anticipation and it was more than worth the wait. But Rafe is a man of many talents and had his hand in a lot of things. He was beyond stretched thin with all the work he was doing. One of those jobs got more than a bit out of hand and left everyone reeling. Especially Janie. My heart just ached for her. She was so torn up over Rafe and the predicament he found himself in. So she did buried herself in the one thing she could control, work. Tensions were high as Rafe battled with himself to figure out what he was missing. I didn't like that everyone, Janie included, kept him in the dark. But when it all came to the light it was game on. Rafe wasn't holding back. He was going after what was his and he didn't care who tried to get in the way. He was getting his woman and setting things straight. There we a lot of players in the mix and I honestly had no idea who was going to be the secret link that tied it all together. For as high as the stakes were and all the drama, I found the ending a bit anti-climatic. That being said, Kinda Don't Care was sexy, thrilling and had me reading furiously until there were no pages left.
