Beyond a reasonable doubt, this is hands down Tijan's best book of 2020!! I was completely high fiving Cheyenne from the outside. I loved her quirky self and how she was as a person. She comes from a dysfunctional family, a mother who was a junkie, a father who never wanted anything to do with her, and a stepmother who thinks she's harmful to her own kids. Cheyenne pretty much does not give a rat's a$$ what people think of her. She is who she is and that's that. She may never have had the love of her parents or step/half-siblings but in reality when she got to really know Hunter (her half-brother) she connects with him instantly and that's all she cares about when it comes to the family. She has her two good friends, who she is really close to and never ran away from her once they got to really know her. In fact, they were always there for her and always coached her when she was about to have a breakdown, an anxiety attack or straight out a freak out. When Cheyenne runs into the guy she had a major crush on during her younger years she was doing everything in her power to not get noticed by him. Little did she know that she was the most attractive girl at the event Cut noticed her at and he had one thing on his mind....to make Cheyenne his. When Cheyenne does everything in her power to try and dissuade Cut from pursuing her, that just pushes Cut to keep pursuing her harder. Once she opens up to him about her situation she thinks he's going to run, but nah-ah, that just makes him want to protect her more and be with her more. Cutler, the famous hockey player and Cheyenne are certainly a pair that you want to remember. I've never read a book like this and this is certainly going on top of the list. Tijan always has a way to make her readers fall in love with her characters.
Excerpt “Stars. You made me meet them.” I was still seeing them. His eyes. So smoldering. He continued to stare at me, as if seeing me for the first time. I tensed. Maybe he was regretting this? Was my one-night stand a one-night finger bang instead? I tried to stem the disappointment, but… Okay. A girl had coping mechanisms. I could pull mine up, if I needed to. I was hoping I didn’t need to. I didn’t know how I’d handle that either. Then he must’ve made his decision. He readjusted his hold on me, standing back from the door and his mouth twitched. “One rule.” “Yeah?” I was about to see stars again. “Don’t call me dude again.” About Tijan
