Excerpt: Nina had never forgotten Marcos’s face, though close to eight years had gone by since she’d seen him last. She had a small square photo of him in her jewelry box, underneath the secondhand wedding band, but it was a memorable enough face without the tangible reminder. Broad through the cheekbones, with straight, heavy brows. Strong, but with something oddly vulnerable in the shape of the lips, the ever-so-slightly dimpled chin. And the eyes…oh, the eyes. Heavy-lidded, almost sleepy, but changeable, quick to flash into intensity or humor, or turn sad. She’d seen them go through a whole gamut of emotions over the twenty-plus hours of their first meeting. Now they were hard and cold as stone.
