Ten years after surviving something no child should ever have to endure, Hallie Anderson is finally ready to stop hiding in the shadows. She has a job she loves, friends who care about her, and a fresh start in an apartment of her own. She can finally put the horrors of the past behind her. Or so she thinks.

When the past merges with the present, Hallie is soon feeling like the scared and vulnerable thirteen-year-old of ten years ago. Wanting desperately to hold onto her new life, she’s reluctant to accept any offer of help. As events take a dramatic turn, she quickly realizes if she wants to stay alive she has no choice. What she doesn’t expect is the help to come in the form of Sawyer Mitchell, a Close Protection Officer who looks like he should be starring in a Hollywood movie rather than watching her every move.

For Sawyer, the assignment to protect Hallie is like any other assignment he’s taken on. He’ll do what he needs to do and then walk away. He never gets close to a client, it makes protecting them all the harder if he does. All that changes when he meets Hallie. He’s inexplicably drawn to her, knowing instantly she isn’t like anyone else he’s protected.

Can Sawyer protect Hallie and keep his feelings for her under control, or will he cross a line, putting both of them in danger?

3 Heart Review by Ashley

After reading the blurb for Crossing the Line I knew I wanted to make it my first read from Laura Farr. The opening had me completely riveted and eager to see what would become of Hallie.

I really liked this girl. She had endured so much. Survived. And was learning to live again on her own terms. Until her past came roaring back into her life and left her in a world of memories and danger. Enter Sawyer, the man whose mission it is to keep her safe. Who never expected to fall for his innocent and brave charge. Who put it all on the line to keep her safe.

I really liked how patient and accommodating Sawyer was with Hallie. Especially after he learned all that she had suffered. He treated her with respect and didn't push but let her open up to him in her own way and in her own time. And it was wonderful to see Hallie's confidence grow even with so much uncertainty hanging in the air.

I will say that with the way things seemed to wrap up early-ish on, I knew that something else had to be coming. And I was right, I just had no idea what Laura Farr had lying in wait. My heart was racing as those tense moments played out. From start to finish Crossing the Line was emotionally intense. Sawyer and Hallie's journey, while something neither expected, was sweet, pure and  exactly what they both needed to see all the possibilities that love can bring.
