An emotional, tension-filled forbidden romance that will keep you on the edge of your seat until the very last page... Deadly Illusion is a full-length standalone with no cliffhanger in The Secrets and the City series: A collection of forbidden romances with page-turning suspense and gripping plot twists. This is an emotional novel that contains sensitive subject matters. 3 Heart Review by Ashley Deadly Illusion is my very first read from Kathy Lockheart. I loved the blurb and it sounded right up my alley but the book itself was a bit of a mixed bag for me. I can do dark and twisted, which definitely happened here. But there was almost too much going on and some things got lost in the shuffle. That being said, I liked Jenna. She was young and full of hope even though she had lived through tragedy as a child. Her first encounter with Damian was equal parts sweet and creepy and raised flags for me. And it didn't take long for his true colors to show. For the bubble of happiness to burst in terrible fashion. I was glad she had a support system to help her, and keep her safe even if it was two broody, protective men who wouldn't listen to reason at times. I really enjoyed seeing a softer side to Colton where Jenna was concerned. I also enjoyed seeing Jenna relax with all the tension and danger lurking. Too bad trouble kept finding her. Talk about sinister. I was holding my breath and my pulse was pounding as that final heart stopping scene played out in agonizing slow motion. Confession time: I didn't like how it went down. It seemed senseless and unnecessary. However, I did read the author's note at the end, and it did provide some clarity on why she took the book to the places she did.
