What would you sacrifice for love? Leaving his Navy career and his assignment at the Department of Defense behind, Mac Whittaker is ready to join his family on Capitol Hill. He’s just missing one thing―a woman he loves at his side. He wants the American fairy tale. Georgie Astrella has put her life’s goals on hold for way too long. She’s finally putting away her cutting shears and curling iron to bury herself in justice and the law. She certainly isn’t looking for love. Fate has other ideas… throwing them together until neither of them can walk away from the attraction that thunders across their souls… from the truth of how their hills and valleys fit perfectly together. But her family’s past would make his future an impossibility. Will Mac give everything up for her? And more importantly, will Georgie let him? 3 Heart Review by Ashley Forged in Sacrifice is my first read from LJ Evans and it was alright. It took me a good bit to get into the story and part of that is because Georgie and Mac spent so much time apart and trying to avoid each other and the feelings that they stirred in one another. I liked Mac's pursuit of what he wanted for his life. Yes he was a military man but he was also a man who wanted the American dream. The family and a better future for those he loved. It was what motivated him his whole life. Shaped his actions and relationships. They were all leading to a bigger purpose. Until he met Georgie. She knocked his world off its axis and he didn't know what to do about it. Especially with the connections her family had (spoiler alert, it wasn't good). I liked Georgie's grit and determination. How she was working, finally, for the future she always wanted for herself. How she loved her family and without reservation even when they forced her to put herself last time and again. I could feel the tension between Mac and Georgie building bit by bit throughout the whole book. I kept waiting for them to give into what they both wanted, consequences be damned. And when they did, it was worth the wait. But you know that saying 'when it rains, it pours?' that was the final third of the book. All of the drama hit at once and it was all Mac could do to keep his mind and heart in tact. He was pulled in so many directions I'm not sure how he kept up. With family, duty, politics, scandal and friendships, Forged in Sacrifice takes a hard look at how much hard work goes into making a relationship work. Mac and Georgie prove that when love is on the line, sometimes the hardest decision can also be the easiest. About the Author Award winning author, LJ Evans, lives in the California Central Valley with her husband, daughter, and the three terrors called cats. She's been writing, almost as a compulsion, since she was a little girl and will often pull the car over to write when a song lyric strikes her. While she currently spends her days teaching 1st grade in a local public school, she spends her free time reading and writing, as well as binge watching original shows like The Crown, Victoria, Veronica Mars, and Stranger Things.
If you ask her the one thing she won’t do, it’s pretty much anything that involves dirt—sports, gardening, or otherwise. But she loves to write about all of those things, and her first published heroine was pretty much involved with dirt on a daily basis. Which is exactly what LJ loves about fiction novels—the characters can be everything you’re not and still make their way into your heart.
