Synopsis:

Sticks and stones will break my bones, but words will never harm me.
Whoever coined that phrase is a bald-faced liar. Words are often the sharpest weapon of all, triggering some of the most powerful emotions a human can experience.
“You’re pregnant.”
“It’s a boy.”
“Your son needs a heart transplant.”
Sticks and stones will break my bones, but words will never harm me.
Lies.
Syllables and letters may not be tangible, but they can still destroy your entire life faster than a bullet from a gun.
Two words—that was all it took to extinguish the sun from my sky.
“He’s gone.”
For ten years, the darkness consumed me.
In the end, it was four deep, gravelly words that gave me hope of another sunrise.
“Hi. I’m Porter Reese.”

5 Star Review by Ashley:

Oh my heart! I feel like I say that with every Aly Martinez book but this one made my chest physically ache. The Darkest Sunrise started with hope and promise and then on the next page my heart was just ripped plum out out of my chest.

Charlotte, I just wanted to wrap her in my arms and hug her. I could say I wanted to take her pain away but that just isn't possible. Nothing could heal her heart. Take away the darkness that was her world. Until Porter Reese burnt his way into her world.

I loved how adorably awkward these two were. With dry senses of humor and a world of hurt in their past, they got each other. They accepted and didn't try to change the darkness that lived in their souls. No judgements. No excuses. It was a perfect plan, until it wasn't. Until they wanted the light.

With every page read, every tear shed, every brick Charlotte and Porter tore down, my heart, and theirs began to heal. And then the fragile ground they had built went sliding right out form under them. HOLY MOLY! I thought I had this one pegged but this is Aly Martinez I'm talking about. I should've known to expect the unexpected. I absolutely can not wait to see what is in store for Porter and Charlotte in the finale of this duet! I NEED it...like yesterday!

AUTHOR INFORMATION:

Originally from Savannah, Georgia, USA Today bestselling author Aly Martinez now lives in South Carolina with her four young children.

Never one to take herself too seriously, she enjoys cheap wine, mystery leggings, and baked feta. It should be known, however, that she hates pizza and ice cream, almost as much as writing her bio in the third person.

She passes what little free time she has reading anything and everything she can get her hands on, preferably with a super-sized tumbler of wine by her side.
