Something in the Way by Jessica Hawkins

An epic, three-book saga of forbidden love coming 2017.

It was a hot summer day when I met him on the construction site next to my parents’ house. Under the sweat and dirt, Manning Sutter was as handsome as the sun was bright. He was older, darker, experienced. I wore a smiley-face t-shirt and had never even been kissed. Yet we saw something in each other that would link us in ways that couldn’t be broken...no matter how hard we tried.

I loved Manning before I knew the meaning of the word. I was too young, he said. I would wait. Through all the carefully-chosen words hiding what we knew to be true, through his struggle to keep me innocent, and through infinitely-starry nights—I would wait. But I’d learn that life isn’t always fair. That no matter how much you achieve, none of it matters if you suffer the heartbreak that comes with falling for someone you can never have. Because even though I saw Manning first, that didn’t matter. My older sister saw him next.

Review by Lorena

My god, this book really, really took my breath away. I love to read books that have a forbidden storyline and this definitely delivered in that aspect.

Ms. Hawkins always manages to make my heart thump fast and loud!

We ge to meet Lake, Tiffany and Manning.

I loved Manning and how protective he was of Lake. He saw her more as a little sister rather than a love interest, but at the same time he actually had feelings that went beyond brotherly. But he decides to take a chance and date Tiffany because he feels more safe going that route AND also because Lake is only sixteen years old and Manning is twenty-three so he feels like he'll be better off dating the nineteen year old Tiffany.

I was peeved with Lake at times because as much as she wanted to look up to her sister and she adored her sister in spite of her behavior, she made me want to just scream at times. Tiffany was a spoiled brat who felt like she deserved the world and didn't care if she hurt anyone in the process. She knew that Lake was crushing on Manning and she still went ahead and snooped him up off Lake's nose.

We understand that Lake was a bit young for Manning but a relative shouldn't try and swoop the person you are swooning over.

But just the way this book left off definitely leaves you with a hangover and wanting to just keep reading, but unfortunately we have to wait until May to continue this saga.

But Jessica Hawkins just has a way to manipulate her characters and make you either fall in love with them or hate them.

I can't wait to keep reading this trilogy because I am anxious to find out what happens with this trio.
