WOW!! What can I say besides I absolutely loved every heart gripping moment of this book. This is only the second book I've read from this author and I am officially hooked on her writing. A Heart's Forgiveness is the story of Brett and Julie, who are featured in a few of Joanne Schwehm's other books. However, this is a stand alone so you don't have to read those titles to fall in love with them here.
Brett Chambers, I really liked him. He is as sweet as he is sexy. While he had been burned in the past, when he met Julie he knew it was game over even as he tried to fight it. The ease of their relationship was one of my favorite things about them together. There was a lightness to it that made me root for them. Julie was such a great character. Her life has been anything but easy but she didn't let it get her down. She knew she has so much more to live for and she did. She found joy in the small things and the people she surrounded herself with. And when one event sparks Julie's thoughts of her own happily ever after, something she never thought she could or would have, things spiral out of control. Lines are crossed and hearts are broken. I wanted to knock Brett upside the head for what he did. At the same time I wanted to hug Julie until her pain went away. But I was also glad that she didn't let him walk all over her or let him float any excuse by her. My heart hurt for the both of them. They were needlessly hurting when it was painfully obvious that they wanted to be together. And just when it looked like things might be on the up and up for them, another bombshell from the ultimate mean girl, Nikki. That woman was a piece of work and then some (and that is putting it very mildly). As the story unfolded my dislike for her only continued to grow. But try as Nikki might she couldn't get what she wanted out of Brett. I was so glad that he stuck to his guns and didn't give into her schemes. And through all the ups and downs, who was there, the one and only Julie. That woman was selfless to a fault. Her speech to (mini spoiler alert) baby Maddie tore my heart out. There was no way to stop the water works in that moment. But the best part of that was what happened in the aftermath. Brett's true colors really showed and he pulled out all the stops to prove to Julie just how much he needed her in his life. Oh, and that ending, perfectly them!
