Title: Forced to SinAuthor: Brittani MariGenre: Dark RomanceAbout FORCED TO SIN:Clint Marino wasn’t the definition of a perfect catch. He was damaged, cruel…and carried the reputation of being many people’s worst nightmare. So how had he come into my life? Simple. I was a job he needed to complete. But somewhere along the way, things became disjointed, confused. I found myself holding onto him instead of running away. Did that make me naïve? More than likely. But after learning his weakness, I wanted to fix it. Seeing the blatant pain he tried to hide, I had an overwhelming desire to help. I soon became enthralled, addicted to his broken pieces, blind to the storm headed our way. When it hit, its impact was devastating, leaving me gasping for air…

Marino’s face hardened, unamused. He turned to me again, holding out his hand. “Can I have this dance?”
I nodded, not wanting to piss him off. I placed my hand in his, allowing Marino to pull me away. He dragged me against him. He didn’t speak for the first few minutes as he expertly guided me around the dance floor. I thought we would dance in silence the entire time before he finally spoke. “You looked like you needed an escape. I know Heath Colbert can get under anyone’s skin. Bore people into an early grave.” I smirked. He was right, but I didn’t confirm it. Heath was my future, and strangely enough, even with him and my father plotting behind my back, he was more than I expected. My independence would be gone, but I heard of women who had endured worse. At least Heath was…tolerable. “He’s actually a gentleman.” Marino laughed. It was harsh, laced with ice and disapproval as he glanced around. “There are no gentlemen in here, Valerie.” He swept his arm in an arc around the room, unashamed at pointing fingers. All he received in return were frowns, gasps, downward glances. “This room is filled with corruption, liars…killers.” I knew he referenced himself, unashamed. He wore it proudly, like a badge. “Some just hide it better than others. Every person in here is far from gentle. Don’t be so naïve.” We continued to dance. One song turned into the next. I glanced over at the corner. My father glowered, Heath stared at us curiously, and my mother accepted more wine. Once we started dancing, there was a shift in the room. Everyone tiptoed around, whispered, acted worried. Who was this man? How did he know so much about a world many thought was protected? He talked like he knew everybody’s secrets and had the means to destroy them. “How long?” I whispered like it was a secret. But he didn’t have to hide. He wore no mask. He walked around openly, daring anybody to approach. It seemed too many feared him to do so. “How long what?” He almost dared me to say it. As it slipped off my tongue, it didn’t feel as dirty as I imagined. “How long have you killed?” He looked around, thinking, then suddenly pulled me closer, plastering my body against his. I gasped as his lips brushed my ear. “Years. A decade…,” he replied roughly. “It all runs together.” I didn’t move, his warm breath caressing my ear, his firm grip holding my waist. He’d just told me he’d been killing for a decade, and my panties were soaked, nipples erect. I was too turned on to step away. I felt every muscle through his suit, felt the length of him against me. In a room full of people, my senses made me feel like we were alone. I swallowed. “A decade?” I choked out. He loosened his grip and pulled back, studying me. He saw how he affected me. The flutter of my lashes. My body heating. He frowned, stepping back, his eyes zeroing in on a figure behind me. The connection between us lost just as quickly as it began. Then I remembered. He was a killer. Was he working? His face had hardened, muscle in his jaw twitching slightly. I knew the answer. Despite his expensive clothes, someone was going to die.
