“Incumbent...the title alone would not have grabbed my attention had the cover not blown my mind ;) WOW!!! Then I opened the book and DAAAAAMN, Joanne Schwehm grabbed me from the first chapter and kept me clean through to the last page!!” ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ ~ Amazon Reviewer“First I need to say, I was the first person to have the pleasure of meeting Senator Drake Prescott, and it's a good thing I claimed him before anyone else. I devoured this book, and often threatened the author for more as I beta read every page the moment it was sent to my Kindle.” ~ ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Author A.M. Madden“I vote for Incumbent! Joanne Schwehm has yet to disappoint me. Her writing is effortless and the story is amazing. I can't wait for everyone to meet Drake Prescott. SWOON!!!” ~ ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Author Trudy Stiles 4 Star Review by Ashley
I have been counting down the days to this release since I saw the first teaser. Joanne Schwehm had me completely enthralled in this fast-paced and different love story. My emotions ranged from happiness to heartache to anger and back to happiness with the surprises Incumbent had.
I really liked how different Lucy and Drake were. I haven't read characters like them before. Lucy is shy and reserved. She keeps to herself and only has one friend, Mason. Drake is the guy dreams are made of. He is incredibly intelligent, sexy, a family man, has a killer body and heart of gold. When these two meet it was as if the world stopped and was thrown back on its axis. There was something about the other that just drew them in. I think my favorite thing about them was that they were nerds and embraced it fully. If it wasn't reading an actual newspaper it was the love for history, learning and teaching. At their core was someone who wanted to help shape and better the lives of those around them. For Lucy it was through her teaching. For Drake it was through policy change with his seat in the Senate. I loved the relationship between Drake and Lucy. It was light and easy and they both got to be themselves. They were able to relax, let their guard down and just be. But with Drake being in the public eye and his every move scrutinized they have to be very careful. This is the one thing that makes Lucy nervous because she has a past that she ran from that could come back to bite him. When what all happened was revealed, my heart broke for Lucy. And then I got angry that it happened to her. While Drake's reaction was to be expected, Lucy's wasn't. I didn't think she would handle things the way she did. But when the events of her troubled past come to light, it is Drake and the entire Prescott family to the rescue. Drake is willing to do whatever it takes to protect the woman he loves. His actions made me fall for him even more than I already had. More so, however, it was how Lucy stepped up that me smiling from ear to ear. This woman is spectacular. Its no wonder Drake was so in love with her. I LOVED the Prescott clan. Everyone from the baby sister, Gretchen to the budding pro athlete, Dane played some sort of role in the development of Lucy and Drake's relationship. And I can't forget Mason, Lucy's best friend. We all need someone like him in our lives. Someone who loves you unconditionally and isn't afraid to tell you when they think you're making a mistake. Someone who will be there for you at the drop of a hat, even when they think you're wrong. Joanne Schwehm delivered BIG time with Incumbent. Not only was it a great story of overcoming loss, starting over and finding yourself and love; but it was a great set up for what is sure to be an amazing series.
