I have been waiting, not so patiently at times, for the release of this book since Mandi Beck hooked me with Deacon and Frankie and all their crazy in Love Hurts. YES- you need to read Love Hurts (why haven't you already?) I have to say, the wait was well worth it- Love Burns gave me everything I wanted, a few things I didn't and all the feels in between. This book grabbed me by the head and heart from the prologue and kept me hooked until the very last page. It was fast paced and full of passion.
I thought I loved Deacon before but I was wrong. Calling him intense is putting it mildly. He had his two focuses, fighting and Frankie and nothing was going to stand in his way of either. I loved this dirty talking, man bun sporting, pink wearing fighter. He stepped up big time in this book, consequences, cars and faces be damned- he was going to do whatever it took to keep his Princess safe. His true colors came out when Frankie drops a bomb on the whole clan. Here was this big, bad, alpha to the extreme man being extra attentive and tender (insert swoon here). But this is Deacon and Frankie, the good is great and the bad is terrible. And what a tangled web of lies, betrayal and deceit are uncovered. The depth of danger everyone thought they were in was nothing compared to the reality of it all. I loved all the dark and convoluted and even heartbreaking twists this book took. But through it all, there was Deacon and Frankie- fighting. Not just for themselves but for each other. And when they finally started to fight for the future that they wanted together, it was like the storm clouds parted, the sun came out and the birds sang. I am still reeling from all the emotions this book brought out in me. Yes Mandi Beck, you did that & I feel you. I felt all of it; every punch, dodge and fight. Every laugh, every tear, every gasp- I was there. Thank you for giving Frankie and Deacon a story that was uniquely theirs and that was as intense and passionate as they were. Thank you for not taking the easy road but for making it gritty and raw and ugly at times- just like love and life. You made me laugh, swoon, cry, and think about the things that are really worth fighting for. And that ending, couldn't have been more perfectly Frankie and Deacon. Mandi Beck has been an avid reader all of her life. A deep love for books always had her jotting down little stories on napkins, notebooks, and her hand. As an adult she was further submerged into the book world through book clubs and the epicness of social media. It was then that she graduated to writing her stories on her phone and then finally on a proper computer.
A nursing student, mother to two rambunctious and somewhat rotten boys, and stepmom to two great girls away at college, she shares her time with her husband in Chicago where she was born and raised. Mandi is a diehard hockey fan and blames the Blackhawks when her deadlines are not met.
Love Hurts is her debut novel and she is currently working on the next in the series along with whatever other voices are clamoring for attention in her mind.
