Vanessa Vale is an author I've been seeing a lot of but never read until now. So when I dove into North, I truly had no idea what to expect. And right from the start, I knew it was going to take me a bit to really get into the story.

Most of it had to do with Jed. There was something about him and his inner dialogue that almost turned me off before I even really got started. He was a bit arrogant and crass but once I got to know him a bit better, that sorta fell by the wayside as his true goodness came out. Especially where North was concerned.

I LOVED that she knocked him for a loop. Can you say complex, self-sacrificing woman? Because that is North to a T. Badass business woman, sister, do-gooder. As the things she did to ensure the happiness and future of her brother's were revealed, my gut clenched. And I was so glad that Jed was there by her side to help hold her through it. That he saw beyond the 'ice princess' to the tender woman beneath. But when the bullets started to fly, Jed's protective instincts went into overdrive.

The final third of the book had my heart racing. I had to know who was behind all the deceit and double crossing going on. And There was danger and twists and steam, secrets and an evil genius that nobody suspected. North and Jed's whirlwind romance with just that touch of the forbidden kept me on my toes until the very end.
