4 Star Review by Ashley I am no stranger to M. Mabie's work, the Wake Series being one of my favorites- hello Casey Moore!. If you're expecting the gut churning angst, this isn't that book at all. Set in a small town, Roots and Wings is full of heart, humor and charm. Mutt, oh sweet and awkward Mutt. This girl stole my heart. She is strong and thoughtful, tough and a bit crass but also fiercely loyal and lonely. After a particularly grueling day she comes face to face with the town's newest addition, Vaughn. This city boy with his sights set on settling down is just what Mutt has been missing. I loved that he saw her, who she was, down to her soul. Life happens and this blossoming romance is put to the test by the fears that live within themselves. Vaughn and Mutt (you're gonna have to read to get her real name- gonna make you work for it like Vaughn did) have their challenges, of course, like any couple trying to find their footing but when they were together, they were able to be the best versions of themselves. I won't give away all the juicy bits that made this town and book a place I wanted exist in. Mabie proves through this understated love story that there is beauty in the everyday. Happiness, joy and love can be found anywhere if you let yourself. It was the small things that made the biggest impact in this story, from the hand holding, to fishing, to driving a beat up van, to being called by your real name....Roots and Wings is the absolute perfect title for this book that put a smile on my face and warmed my heart. She is the author of the steamy comedy Fade In. Her sophomore release, Bait, is the first book in the angst-filled erotic Wake Series. She writes unconventional love stories and tries to embody "real-life romance." She cares about politics, but will not discuss them in public. She uses the same fork at every meal, watches Wayne's World while cleaning, and lets her dog sleep on her head. She has always been a writer. In fact, she was born with a pen in her hand, which almost never happens. Almost. M. Mabie usually doesn't speak in third-person either. She promises.
