Cillian and Persephone definitely were so opposites but Persey is what kept Cillian balanced. He had all kinds of issues and he was doing everything in his power to not ever have his secret come out in the light. But sometimes no matter how hard we try to hide stuff, it always comes out whether we want them to or not. Persephone stole my heart with how big her heart was. How she opened up to people and was always there to help those that needed it but she also at one time needed help and Cillian was there to get her out of that problem. She proposed a contract of marriage and at first Persey was against it but when she saw that she had no way out, she went with it, but it worked out for her because she's been in love with Cillian since the first time she laid eyes on him. She was going in thinking that she could eventually change Cillian, but what she doesn't expect is that sometimes you can't change the Villain. Cillian has always harbored secret feelings for Persephone but he was really good at hiding them. The last thing he wanted was to show his feelings because he thought that his problem would come back and show it's rearing head and he was scared for that to happen, so he thought that by treating Persephone like she meant nothing to him, she would eventually give in and just accept what he had proposed to her since the beginning. Little did Cillian know....Persephone never went down without a fight! This book was another 5 Star read for me from this phenomenal author who can write like no other author. I will jump in her books without having to read the synopsis because I just know that I'm going like her magnificent words no matter what!
Excerpt I leaned against the doorframe, hands tucked in my front pockets, and observed. It took her three minutes to notice me. Another two to lift her jaw off the floor, straighten her spine, and turn scarlet. Our eyes met across the room, and that nagging murmur in my chest happened again. Get that checked. If you drop dead from a heart attack at forty, you’ll have no one else to blame. She winced, looking like I physically slapped her. “Mr. Fitzpatrick.” “Miss Penrose.” “Veitch,” she corrected, just to spite me. “Not for long,” I noted dryly. “A word?” “I know many. My favorite one right now is—leave.” “You want to hear me out.” I cracked my knuckles. “Now say goodbye to your little friends.” She looked back and forth between the kids and me, then turned and murmured something to the teacher next to her, and hurried my way, dunking her head down. “What are you doing here?” She closed the door behind her, whisper-shouting. I’ve been asking myself the same question since bailing on Keith and his snooze-fest speech. What the hell was I doing here? ![]()
