If my parents had it their way, I’d be off at college. Instead, I’m drowning in secrets, every one of them involving my brother’s best friend. Hayes Wilder is a walking red flag, warning me to stay away. And yet, all I can think about are his calloused hands on my skin. He’s a total player, on and off the ice, but right now, the only playing he wants to do is with me. Sneaking around isn’t easy, especially when you live in a small town where nothing stays hidden. And when our secret ends up in the wrong hands, decisions and regrets come as a package deal. I’ve got everything I’ve always wanted right in front of me. All my dreams lying at my feet. But I’m forced to decide if loving him is worth losing myself. I wish someone would’ve told me that the prettiest of poisons are also the most lethal. 4.5 Heart Review by Lorena A brother's best friend novel that had me up all night! Laiken has had a crush on Hayes FOREVER but she's never wanted him to know because that was her brother's best friend and her brother has made it very clear to all his buddies that his sister is off limits to all of them. Hayes never thought anything of it, he always saw her like a little sister, but not because he wanted to, but because he had to with the strict rule her brother put on all of them. One night at a bonfire she blurted out to her best friend and Hayes' sister that she's always had a crush on him and wished he felt the same for her. Well...she certainly got her wish after that fateful night. Once the flirting started between them, it was game on. But when they decided to take it to the next level and be more than "just friends" they had to keep it hush-hush because they were afraid of what Cameron (Laiken's brother) would do to Hayes for going against what he said. So their little torrid affair eventually had to come to an end, and not one that either one of them wanted. The question is, can they remedy it and step up their game and tell Cameron how they feel about each other or will they forever lose each other because they're too afraid of what the consequences might be if Cameron finds out. I loved Hayes and Laiken and they certainly did make quite a cute couple. I'm a little peeved that Hayes couldn't man up and just tell Cameron how he felt about his sister -- damn the consequences and if it ended their best friend relationship or not. Laiken is in love with Hayes and I mean IN LOVE so I couldn't see them splitting up. I did like how possessive Hayes was, that was a complete turn on for me ;) Overall I LOVED this first book in this series and can't wait to get more of Laiken and Hayes (yay)!!
