Life changes in the span of a heartbeat. One, tiny heartbeat. Blake and Layla have lived through disappointment and regret, only finally finding relief with the powerful love they have for each other. A love they intend to fight to keep. They’ve had to forgive each other, but can they truly move forward without facing the pain of the past? Layla’s been avoiding the phone calls. Nine months pregnant and exhausted, she doesn’t want the complication. But she can’t run from the truth. Whoever’s calling was there eighteen years ago. Unlike her, he remembers the night that changed the course of her life, and he’s ready to talk. Blake’s preoccupied with an email, a few simple sentences sent through cyberspace that have the capability to rob him of his sanity, his freedom, and the people he loves most in the world. When he’s called home for a mysterious reason, leaving Layla isn’t ideal, but hope for reconciliation combined with his brother’s secrecy ignites a curiosity he refuses to ignore. Putting the pain behind them is no longer an option. To get the answers they need, they must face the past and open up old wounds that threaten to bleed them dry. Review by Amanda**Please note this is a follow up on Fighting to Forgive (Fighting #2).** How do I love Blake Daniels?? Let me count the ways. He loves Layla with his very being and is on his way to adopting her teenage daughter Axelle. He loves his little family with every fibre of his being, and he goes to great lengths to make sure that his girls not only know they are loved, but also that they are protected. He is also in serious protector mode as Layla is heavily pregnant with their first child. Even though Layla is far along, there is no shortage of sexiness in this book - I tell you, J.B. Salsbury, certainly knows how to make us ladies sweat! SMOKING HOT! This story also focuses on Layla and Blake's painful pasts - Layla is struggling with the demons of what happened to her as a teenager, and also a new discovery that she knows is going to send Blake spiralling. Blake is keeping a secret from Layla, he fears that it will put undue pressure on her if she discovers it, so he shoulders it all. He is also having to face the ghosts of the relationship with his father. This part is especially heart breaking and amazing to read! I FLOVED this book, although initially it started out as a novella, it most certainly isn't, I would say it is somewhere between a novella and a novel. J.B. Salsbury is a magician with her words, this book will have you laughing hysterically and then crying your eyes out. It really is that fabulous. Blake is this hilarious, over protective, alpha male, MMA fighting, gorgeous piece of man - I swear some of the things he says in this book, had me howling with laughter - "I giggle "It's no different from when you use your fingers -" "Oh hell no" His head swivels from side to side "It better be different. It better be a fuckuvalot different, Mouse" He rubs his eyes "Great, now I've got that visual running through my head" - A Father's Fight by J.B. Salsbury "Yeah? Me too, but I didn't get a fancy degree. You go to school for what? Ten years to study pussy...as a dude? Yeah...no. You're not getting your fingers or eyes anywhere near my woman" - A Father's Fight by J.B. Salsbury I know it would be politically correct of me to say those scenes made me see red, and blah blah blah, but I swooned - literally. I love the way Blake loves Layla. Layla, although nicknamed Mouse, is far from one. She has no problem putting Blake in his place. She loves him, but the partnership is equal. I cannot say how much I loved this book, each one in this series, is seemingly better than the last. I swear J.B. Salsbury makes me feel every emotion of the spectrum when she writes, and the books become my drug. I am looking forward to the next book in the series, but after reading this one, I am also hoping that Braeden will get his story too. 4.5 magnificent stars for me! Meet J.B.
