Is it really a second chance at love if a grumpy, sexy cowboy proposes marriage only to protect you from being killed by a CIA assassin?

Burned by love, CIA agent Logan Stockton left his Wyoming cowboy roots behind long ago, and he has no intention of returning to the small town that holds his darkest secrets. But when his latest mission puts a target on his sassy, sexy neighbor, Logan will do whatever it takes to keep her safe....including taking her back to Wyoming as his fake fiancée to hide out.

Skylar Jones is stuck in a rut, and even her elderly neighbor believes Skylar is going to end up a crazy cat lady if she doesn't get over her ex and start dating soon. But there's only one man Skylar notices these days, and he's unavailable, cranky, and no more interested in dating than she is.

But apparently, the sexy hunk of cowboy love IS interested in saving her from a professional assassin, so, he has that going for him.

Sparks fly hot and fast when Logan moves in with Skylar to protect her. But can they stay alive long enough to find love, especially when his matchmaking family has plans for the two workaholics who are afraid to trust again?

3 Heart Review by Ashley

A Real Cowboy Always Protects is my very first read from Stephanie Rowe. While it is a standalone, I do feel reading the other books in the series would've been beneficial as there are heaps of references to other characters and events.

I really liked Skylar. She was witty and smart, charming and in over her head. A victim of being in the wrong place at the wrong time forces her to get up close and personal with her neighbor (and crush), Logan. That man is the definition of strong and silent. He keeps to himself, he has to, his job demands it. But he couldn't deny the pull he felt towards Skylar that was more than just his need to make sure she was safe.

A plan was put into motion and it was a road Logan wasn't looking forward to traveling down. A road he told himself he wouldn't take, the road back home to his family. I enjoyed seeing Logan let his guard down where Skylar was concerned. For me, there was too much back and forth. Don't get me wrong, I love a good push and pull but it was one step forward and ten steps back...and repeat. But with the threat still lurking, they were forced to keep up the ruse.

The tension built steadily and I kept waiting for the moment when the danger they were running from would catch up to them. And when it did, the Stockton men were ready. While I would've liked a little more romance, the danger and suspense kept me on my toes.
