After ten years of surviving as a walking, talking, living doll, Laura feels dead inside. She has sacrificed everything for her family, marrying a man she could never love. Her husband doesn’t beat her, doesn’t berate her. He transforms her, forcing her to live as a stand-in for his long dead wife. She stays silent as piece after piece of herself disappears, willing to do anything to protect the people she loves. When his demands go too far, she finally tells her brother the ugly truth. Wanting to protect her without putting the rest of their family at risk, he sends her to the one place he knows she’ll be safe. He places her into the hands of his best friend, Vice President of the Savage Outlaws MC. Once again, she is transformed into someone new; Shay. Bowie has spent many nights dreaming about his best friend’s little sister. The reality is so much sweeter than his dreams. He wants to be more for Shay, needs to protect her, but he’s not sure if he knows how. Can an Outlaw show her how beautiful life should be? Review by Amanda This is book 1 in Emily Minton's new Savage Outlaw Series. Laura has endured hell on earth over the last 10 years. Finally at a point, where she can see no other option, she asks her brother Jeremy for help. Jeremy calls on the one person he trusts as his own brother, Bowie. Bowie is the VP of a MC and has the means and man power to make sure that Laura (who has now become Shay) is safe. The woman Bowie meets is definitely not the one he remembers Jeremy talking about, he cannot recognise her from the pictures that were shared while they were away serving their country. Bowie leaves her to her own devices with his mama Nina and heads out to manage club business. The club business has him away for almost 4 months, and when he returns, what he finds completely floors him. Shay has shed her stepford identity and in her place is the beautiful woman he had dreamed about while at war. Romance is soon kindled between the two, with Bowie staking his claim. However, when Bowie's dead beat Dad (and President of the MC) sees an opportunity for himself to cause further problems for Bowie, he immediately takes the opportunity. That is the moment the past collides with the present, and all hell breaks loose for Bowie, Shay and the Savage Outlaw MCs. This book was an amazing start to a new series that I think is going to fast become one of my favorites. It is full of fast paced action, brothers that love one another through thick and thin, gorgeous men, hot women, some steamy sex and some really amazing writing. The book is also written in dual perspective, which is really the predominant way things are going in romance writing these days. It used to bother me, but I love the way the men in these books are being written - they are still strong, hard ass men - even though a woman is doing the writing. The same can be said for Bowie - he is tough as nails, take no prisoners and I absolutely LOVE him. I really loved how Emily Minton wrote this character - he was ferocious and badass. The character of Laura/Shay, I think is perfectly written as this soft, submissive character that has endured years of abuse. When we are initially introduced to her, we can definitely feel her fragility and frailness. As the book progresses, we see her become this person who fights for and protects the people she loves. I loved how much growth this character had in the book. We are also treated to an epilogue in this book, where we are given a glimpse into what the future holds for our Savage Outlaws, and to make us pant even further, we are treated to a bonus epilogue that will leave you absolutely REELING! I am giving this book 4 stars, I loved the premise, I do feel that some of the story line did feel a bit rushed, and the roller coaster Bowie sent us on with his not liking Laura/Shay to being almost infatuated with her did bother me a bit. Having said that though, I am counting down the days to February, I cannot wait for Tin Man's story! USA Today Best Selling Author, Emily Minton is a Kentucky native.
