She’s hiding secrets.

For Anna, keeping her deepest scars hidden from the world has always been a necessity—from the bruises of her childhood to the mistake that nearly cost her everything. To keep herself safe, she must keep everyone around her at a distance—especially the man who has tempted her since the moment they met.

His demons are taunting him.

Mason has done his best to bury the past by achieving more than he ever thought possible. But even with all of his success, his life feels empty.

When tragedy strikes, Anna is left fighting to protect the only family she has left. And Mason will do anything to keep her and her loved ones safe—even if that means the ring of wedding bells.

But as a new spark ignites between them, someone is watching.

And they’ll do whatever it takes to snuff out that light for good.

4.5 Heart Review by Ashley

This is the return to Sutter Lake I didn't know I needed. Catherine Cowles punched me right in the chest with Beautifully Broken Redemption. From the moment I met Anna I knew my heart was going to be taken on a ride and was I ever right.

I liked that this book started heavy-ish and hard. I liked it even more that Anna didn't stop being kind and generous. With everything except her heart that is. But when tragedy hit and she was faced with the possibility of another devastating loss, she put up her dukes and did what it took to get what she wanted.

Enter Mason. I loved that he was just a good guy. Willing to set up and do what was needed to ensure Anna's safety and happiness. And as they spent time together, adjusted to their new reality, something shifted. The acquaintances became friends and then so much more. Too bad not everyone was as happy as they were with the new relationship.

I kept waiting for the bottom to fall out of the life they were building and when it hit the fan, it HIT the fan. My heart was aching and racing in equal measure as things hung in the balance and Mason was forced to relive his biggest nightmare. Whew! Talk about being put through the emotional wringer! Anna and Mason's not so fake relationship was heartwarming, steamy, suspenseful and left me wanting more.
