As Tampa Bay's star center, Mark Carmelo's life was hockey, and after a bitter and public break up, all he wanted to do was focus on the game.
Until he saw her.
The one that got away.
The one he thought he'd never see again.

For thirteen years, Stevie West drowned in her lackluster life. Recently divorced from her “roommate” with passionless benefits, she was ready to start over. On her own.
Until she ran into him.
The same man she'd met one year ago.
The temptation that had finally given her the courage to find herself again.

When lightning strikes twice, there’s no way to deny the chemistry it creates.
But with both of them still nursing old wounds, Mark and Stevie will have to find a way around the other's defenses, a way to breakaway and score the one thing they never expected… love.

4 Star Review by Ashley

I love me a good sports romance and I was excited to see that A.M. Johnson was writing one because her words always strike a chord. I liked that it was hockey- there aren't very many of this trope floating around and I could tell that the author put her work in on learning the sport.

Mark. I really liked him. He was so grounded even with his fame and fortune. He was dedicated to his family. To his team. He played hard and worked harder. He knew what he would and wouldn't stand for. He went after what he wanted with gusto. And what he wanted was Stevie. Oh Stevie- she was awesome.

I loved her innocence and vulnerability but also her resolve to be who she wanted to be. The Stevie she lost along the way of her past relationship. I loved seeing her come into herself. Shed the burden of her past. Let her inner sex kitten out. She had Mark to thank for that. He called her beautiful and for the first time, she believed it. Le sigh.

I liked that for as much time as they were together, Mark and Stevie also were apart a lot. I think it worked for them. Forced them to examine if the pain of their past was really behind them and determine what they really wanted out of their relationship. Mark and Stevie were equal parts sexy and sweet. A.M. Johnson is onto the start of something awesome with Breakaway. The whole team vibe was on point and I for one can't wait to see Bryson get his!
