Home on leave in sunny California, Marine and local lothario Kit Ryan finds himself dangerously drawn to his best friend's sister, Jessa - the one girl he can't have. But Kit's not about to let a few obstacles stand in his way and soon Jessa's falling for his irresistible charms. What starts out as a summer romance of secret hook-ups and magical first times quickly develops into a passionate love affair that turns both their worlds upside down. When summer's over and it's time for Kit to redeploy, neither Kit nor Jessa are ready to say goodbye. Jessa's finally following her dreams and Kit's discovered there's someone he'd sacrifice everything for. Jessa's prepared to wait for Kit no matter what. But when something more than distance and time rips them apart they're forced to decide whether what they have is really worth fighting for. A breathtaking, scorchingly hot story about love, friendship, family and finding your way back from the edge of heartbreak. 4.5 Star Review by Ashley I don't normally read YA but one of my favorite bibliophiles recommended this book to me so off I went to one-click. Mila Gray captured my heart with her writing that was equal parts angsty and sweet. And characters that were real, likeable and wonderfully human. The prologue alone had me running to grab a tissue. It was emotional, captivating and made me read furiously to see what and who. Jessa- I loved her sweet innocence and desire for more. Her heart was pure and she loves fully and without reservation. The object of her unrequited affection, Kit. He's older, a marine, her brother's best friend and completely off limits. Her dad would have the conniption to end them all if they got together, so what do they do, the get together! I loved these two. Kit and his patience, his gentleness with Jessa's heart and body. He gave her exactly what she wanted and deserved. But time is against them- Kit is deploying and headed back into danger. It is at this point that the intensity and heart pounding really pick up. Oh my heart, I knew it was coming but I still wasn't ready. It was raw and ugly and painful and there were a few times I had to put the book down to get my emotions in check. In all honesty this was the only way it could've gone because there was so much more fall out. The death that I knew was coming at some point became the catalyst that changed the course of everything for everyone. Jessa and her shattered heart are just getting by, not living, not chasing her dreams because she can't find her North Star, her way home. I won't say too much else about what happens except that someone finally steps up after suffering their own pain at the loss. Together they heal and find a new sense of whole, a new sense of peace in a world that will never be the same. Mila Gray took me on such a ride that it has taken me a few weeks to get my head screwed back on right after finishing Come Back to Me. This story is real life. It could be anyone in any town that the events that take place here happen to. This is a beautiful book about hope, fear, loss, and the healing power of love. The joy found in the everyday. The happiness found in following your heart and chasing your dreams. Oh, and that little tease during the epilogue only had me itching more of from these characters.
