Book One in the Consolation Duet

Liam wasn’t supposed to be my happily ever after.
He wasn’t even on my radar.
He was my husband’s best friend—forbidden.

But my husband is dead and I’m alone. I ache for him and I reach for Liam.

One night with Liam changed everything. Now I have to decide if I truly love him or if he’s just the consolation prize.

This series continues on to Liam and Natalie (Lee).  I totally fell in love with this series starting from the Duet Series.  Corinne has a special way of telling military stories and they are emotional, sad and in the end happy.  I literally wanted to toss my kindle across the wall when I finished reading Consolation because that cliffhanger really -- literally leaves you hanging!

Natalie gets a knock at her door and gets the devastating news that her husband was killed in the line of duty.  Natalie is devastated because she always knew what could happen but she never expected that it would happen to her.  Aaron was the love of her life, they were high school sweethearts, her only boyfriend and husband.  Now Natalie needs to move on with her life and she doesn't know how to because she has always been with Aaron.  Now she has to not only think about herself, but about the baby she is expecting.

Liam is Aaron's best friend and also a Navy Seal.  Once Liam moves back home he decides to be close to Natalie, to help her cope with her loss and be there for her whichever way she needs him.  He is her distraction and she is his.  They seem to have a connection from the get go and what they never expected was to fall in love in the process of healing from this horrible pain of losing Aaron.

Some shocking revelations come to light and Natalie feels hurt by everything she's finding out about her husband.  She needs Liam now more than ever.  Can Liam help Natalie move on and only love him.  He doesn't want to take Aaron's place, but he does want Natalie's love for himself now that Aaron is gone.

How did this even happen?  Hey, love is unpredictable and it comes when you least expect it.

This book was beautifully written and I don't think there is another guy out there like Liam.  Not only is he patient but he's understanding and he truly fell in love with his best friend's wife and his baby daughter.  Not too many men are that honorable out there these days who is willing to step in and take over a family.

I am looking forward to Conviction.  I can't wait to continue reading this beautiful story.  Liam totally has my heart <3

5 star read for me
