He was my protector. My savior. He would have done anything for me.

Now he's a criminal, and he's taken everything.

He's my stepbrother and I hate him.

I'm homeless, jobless, desperate. And I had to come crawling back. To him.

Bad enough my college money went to post his bail, now I have to work in the same, seedy bar he deals out of, too, just to get by? And listen to him with girl after girl, night after night, while he walks around all shirtless and sexy during the day?

I'm going crazy--wanting him. I know I shouldn't.

Maybe he was once my Prince Charming, but now he's just a big, tattooed, pierced, cocky prick.

Problem is, even though he cut contact with me two years ago, I couldn't turn off the feeling I had for him. He's back, and my feelings are back too.

Now he's in trouble, with his gang, with the law.

And me... I'm in trouble, too.

These forbidden romances always catches my eye only because there's always someone or something in the way of the couple ever getting to be together.  The struggles and suffering they go through because they can't be together and if they are together, it's always in hiding because they don't want anyone to know that they are together, especially their parents because they already know they aren't going to approve of their relationship.  Then they have to face everyone else and their judgements and sneers.  They have to go through their own personal hell to be happy and they are happy together but without anyone else knowing it, in their own secret world.

Abby and Kaine are no exception to the story like any other step-brother book I've read.  They have had feelings for each other since they were adolescents but they know they can't act on their feelings because they both know that their parents won't approve of their love.  Kaine decides to take off and ends up mixing himself with a bad crowd and now he has hell to pay for doing so.  He's always just wanted to protect Abby but it doesn't seem like that's going to happen in this case.

When Abby decides to come back to Kaine because she's desperate and has nowhere else to go with no money, no job and homeless she realizes that it's a mistake for both their sakes.

Their feelings come out and things start getting out of hand and Ryder, the guy that Kaine is mixed up with in bad things is threatening to do something to Abby so now Kaine has to do whatever he can to protect her from this predator.

They have a long journey and they end up almost dead at the hands of Ryder but they manage to escape the wrath.

This book was intense, my heart always breaks with these stories because they always hide their feelings for each other for so long and I'm happy that in this case, they didn't wait much longer and maybe until they're almost 30 to realize that they shouldn't care what the world thinks and know that they belong together.  I love the fact that Kaine was a strong, sexy, tattooed and pierced guy who had a hard demeanor but was soft in the inside and had a caring heart for Abby.  He went out of his way for her and did everything he did for her, so she can lead a better life and was willing to sacrifice his love for her so she can be with a normal guy and live a normal life, but that's not what Abby wanted.  I'm happy that she finally let go, she was strong-willed and did everything in her power to fend Kaine away from her, but soon enough she broke down that wall and let him in, and boy did she let him in!!

Beautiful love story between step-siblings, the struggles they endured throughout their journey to get to where they wanted to get but eventually they got there.
