My life is a secret.

His life is dangerous.

We’re both stubborn, calculating, and controlling.

Mark Dixon doesn’t know what he’s getting into. He doesn’t know his games could cost us our lives. I have to do what is necessary to keep us alive, and that means guarding my heart.

But I know I’m defenseless against him, and in the end, he’ll force me to surrender.

5 Star Review by Ashley

It didn't take me long to get sucked into the mastery that is Corinne Michaels' writing. She has a remarkable ability to blend humor, drama, sexiness and mystery into love stories that are wholly their own. Her characters are both relateable and likeable- not an easy task. You feel with and for them and their plight. Mark and Charlie's story is no exception to her winning formula and I am so glad that Defenseless is a stand alone!

I loved getting glimpses at Mark, AKA Twilight, in her previous works and am so glad he finally got his story. He is the laid back perpetual bachelor who will go to war for those he cares about. I loved seeing him so enamored from his first meeting with Charlie. Even though it was the most unconventional of circumstances. That spark was there and did go away. The Cole Security team is beyond fed up with all of the missions gone awry and Mark is determined to get to the bottom of it, so he enlists the help of someone from the outside. Enter Charlie back into his life and from here it is one twist and sexy turn the rest of the ride.

I have to say that Charlie quickly propelled herself to my favorite of Corinne's leading ladies. She is a total bad ass. I loved her take no prisoners and do what it takes to get what you want attitude. She was all woman in a mans world and she used it to her advantage. But she also has a touch of vulnerability to her that makes her human. I like how Mark got to her, even though she didn't want him to. Their connection was the one honest thing Charlie had going for her in her world of lies.

I'm giving nothing away but I will tell you this. Mark and Charlie find themselves in quite the web of mystery and deceit. They are left wondering just who they can trust. Friendships and alliances are questioned and tried. Some survive and others don't. There was no shortage of heart stopping action. But it was the quiet moments between Charlie and Mark that wormed this book into my heart. They saw each other, to their core, beyond the calculating, plotting, planning and scheming. Gah! These two were perfect together.

I loved that the rest of the gang that I've come to know in Corinne Michaels' earlier books is present in this one. Everyone from Liam to Catherine play a role along the way. While you don't have to read them to get this story, I strongly suggest that you do. It will fill in some holes and make you love Mark all the more. I can not boast enough about Defenseless. It was smart, sexy, savvy, secretive and sophisticated. The action was non-stop and the intensity kept me reading furiously. I want so much more of Charlie and Mark and their wonderfully unique love.

About the Author

Picture
Corinne Michaels is an emotional, witty, sarcastic, and fun loving mom of two beautiful children. She’s happily married to the man of her dreams and is a former Navy wife. After spending months away from her husband while he was deployed, reading and writing was her escape from the loneliness.

Both her maternal and paternal grandmothers were librarians, which only intensified her love of reading. After years of writing short stories, she couldn’t ignore the call to finish her debut novel, Beloved. Her alpha Navy SEALs are broken, beautiful, and will steal your heart.
