3 Star Review by Ashley Mary Catherine Gebhard is a brand new writer for me and I enjoyed her writing style. The opening was gripping and had my eyes popping out of my head. It was a bold move to start a book that way. That being said, I found Elastic Heart fell a bit flat. And while this book had the potential to be great, to me, it was just ok. However, there were elements to this story that I really enjoyed... I admired Nami, the main character, for her grit and determination. How she stuck to her guns when the rest of the world turned their backs on her. She had something to prove and she was gonna do it come hell or high water. While her methods were unconventional and impulsive they also brought her face to face with the one thing that complicated it all even more, Nick Law. This man is quite the conundrum. Mysterious, secretive and demanding yet he is also willing to go out of his way to try and help Nami. The back and forth between Law and Nami just about drove me up the wall. I kept thinking to myself this is the time they get themselves sorted out, this has gotta be the last time one of them walks away in a huff. There were lots of twists and turns throughout this book and each one had me either shaking my head or groaning in frustration. I really did want to see justice served. And I can't leave out that one part that hurt my heart more than anything else. But there were also a few tender moments. Law showed he had a softer side and in turn brought out the woman Nami was before her life fell to pieces. Overall, Elastic Heart was an alright read. It was ugly and twisted but also held a lot of truth in its pages. Mary Catherine Gebhard could've taken this down a much different road and I'm glad that she didn't. Nami and Law were a great compliment to each other. He calmed her frantic-ness and her spunk lit a fire in him that had been missing. While I feel that this book had the potential to dig deeper and pull out more emotions from me it still packed quite the punch. So if you're a fan of darker reads and looking for something different you might just want to give this one a shot. About the Author
