Margaret Long’s world looks bright and shiny on the outside. Married to a successful attorney, she lives in a mini-mansion with her husband and their perfect daughter. No one would imagine how dim and dark her life really is. With a fractured heart and a broken body, she wonders how to break free. The day Margaret happens to meet Mick Grantham is serendipitous. With a huge appetite for success after rescuing his mom from a violent situation, he now feeds that hunger by rebuilding broken businesses, not people. Although Margaret has a vibrant personality, her fragile exterior brings out his compassion, drawing him into her world. It’s a dangerous situation, especially with Margaret’s outspoken daughter involved, who is wiser than her years. Someone is likely to get hurt, but Margaret and Mick’s attraction can’t be helped until changing circumstances force them to a halt. Not all happy endings are born easily, but those won through adversity are often the most satisfying. 5 Heart Review by Lorena This story was heartbreaking because how could someone take so much from someone. Margaret has endured the type of life she has only because of her daughter. She will do anything for her and she wants her to have a family whether the family is broken or not. Margaret and her husband just put up a front because of their daughter, but what Margaret doesn't count on is meeting a man who will brighten up her life. Mick happens to be at the same bar as Margaret and they strike up a conversation. She realizes how easy going it can be with any male. He gives her compliments, something she hasn't heard in years and it's hard for her to believe that someone other than her husband can be interested in her. Mick realizes that Margaret doesn't live an easy life with her husband and he encourages her to leave and start new with her daughter. But Margaret doesn't feel confident enough to be able to take that step. Something drastic has to happen in order for her to take that leap, and boy does it happen! Mick is a gentle man who has a lot of patience for Margaret. He has never shown that much interest in a woman, or at least it's been a long time for him, but something about this married woman ignites him. He feels rejuvenated and happy. The only thing is, can Margaret make his dreams a reality and hers as well? This book touched me because of the elements of the story. I felt for Margaret and I completely understood her even though I've never been in her shoes, but we certainly can understand when things get serious and/or need a change. I commend Mick for being a brave man in dealing with a situation that he had no business being involved in, but when his feelings grew for Margaret, he felt like he needed to step in and guide her to a better future and that future included him. About the Author A recent poll of her readers described Rachel as insightful, generous, articulate, and spunky. Originally a social worker, Rachel creates broken yet redeeming characters. She's been known to turn up the angst like cranking up the heat in the dead of winter.
A devout coffee drinker and doughnut eater, Rachel spends way too many hours in local coffee shops, downing the aforementioned goodies while she plots her ideas. Her tales may all come with a side of angst and naughtiness, but end as lusciously as her treats. Rachel lives around the corner from her childhood home in Pennsylvania with her family and two beagles. Her obsessions include running, coffee, basketball, icing-filled doughnuts, antiheroes, and mighty fine epilogues.
