Bullets fly during a dangerous mission, and Major Mark Lopez is critically injured…
A Blackstone soldier, Mark is transferred to the North Dakota hospital with the security clearance to treat members of the elite covert team. The pretty new nurse assigned to his case knows her stuff, but Mark soon discovers she knows more than just how to save lives. Mia Harper knows the Blackstone Code. Mia is a bit of gypsy and doesn’t engage much with people—but there’s something about her mysterious new patient… After Mark recovers from surgery, he is discharged from the hospital with orders to rest. Not that he does. Instead he rushes to México for the team’s next assignment. But when he returns to the hospital again and again with minor—and not so minor—injuries, Mia suspects he’s only coming to see her. Romance ignites, and because Mia signed a non-disclosure agreement at the hospital, Mark is able to open up more with Mia than any other woman. Some debts demand payment in either cash or blood… When someone from Mark’s past comes to him for help, old secrets start to resurface, and more blood is shed. Worlds collide and lies are exposed in an all-or-nothing underground poker game. Mark must put his life on the line to keep Mia safe…and to finally learn the answer to the question that’s haunted him his whole life. What really happened that night twenty-five years ago? 4 Star Review by Ashley
J.L. Drake is a totally new to me author and I am just kicking myself for not having read her earlier because it's romantic suspense with military men! MY FAVORITE!!! I'll admit I was a touch lost with some of the references to other characters and situations that had happened in other books with them but it was fairly easy to keep track of who was who and the various relationships.
The star of this book, for me was Mark. For his humor to his huge heart he had it all. It didn't hurt that he was as protective and loyal as he was sexy and sweet. And he sure was sweet on Mia. Oh Mia. She was great. Bold, sassy, fearless and compassionate. Call it a quasi unlucky twist of fate that brought them together but once Mark set his sights on her, it was game on. I enjoyed his pursuit of her and how, despite how little time they initially spent together there was a connection that went beyond the physical. These two were able to open up and share with each other the painful parts of their past. It was smooth sailing until the someone started threatening the future Mark and Mia were building. I LOVED seeing Mark's protective side come out in full force. He would do anything to protect those he loves and Mia is at the top of that list. I can't say too much more without giving all the goods away but I will say this, Honor was intense from the get go and didn't let down the whole way through. Mia and Mark's story was the perfect romantic suspense novel. Sweet, a touch painful in parts, sexy at times and full of family and love. SERIOUSLY, J.L. Drake, where have you been in my life?!? I am wholeheartedly looking forward to more reads with this close knit group of friends. About the Author
