Killian Bosch knows he’s his own worst enemy – he just doesn’t give a damn. The star forward of a minor league hockey team, he’s unstoppable on the ice. His reckless behavior, devil-may-care attitude and complete disregard for consequences have made him a major source of headaches for the Fenway Flyers’ brass. But the new Flyers owner is more steel than brass. Sidney Stahl is a disciplined woman who parlayed earnings from a college job into a real estate empire. She’s determined to transform the Flyers from marketing nightmare to hockey powerhouse. Once she gets Killian in line, she knows the rest of the team will follow his lead. The seduction of his sexy new team owner is a challenge too forbidden for Killian to resist. Sidney plays into his attraction as a means of controlling him, but soon finds that she’s the one surrendering. It’s all on the line as Killian and Sidney are forced to choose - business or pleasure? Review by Amanda On The Line is the latest series from Brenda Rothert. It is a spin off from her Fire and Ice Series - and we do see snippets of characters of the series we have grown to love through this first book. Killian is the captain of the Fenway Flyers. A team in the minor leagues - a team that has been failing season in and out. Killian himself is a bad boy that nobody wants to touch - his wild ways, his disorderly conduct, his drunken escapades and the umpteen women he beds. He is a PR nightmare with a bad and sullen attitude. He is also drop dead gorgeous and all man. He is the best player on the Flyers team, but because of his behavior and bad attitude, he is also not really confident of his future with his team. Enter Sidney Stahl aka "The Ice Queen" - the new owner of the Fenway Flyers. She moves in swiftly appoints Orion Caldwell (squeeeee from the Fire and Ice Series) as her new coach. She also brings along with her a team to try and help with the PR and management of the team. Sidney is brought in to inject some much needed capital and to turn the team around. She wants the Fenway Flyers to be the best of the best and will stop at nothing to do this. The moment Sidney meets Killian she realises things are about to change dramatically. Instantly attracted to him, she knows that the idea of a relationship between her and the team captain is a very bad idea. Killian though has very different idea's. He feels the chemistry between himself and Sidney to his bones - and is bound and determined to see something happen. I adored Killian - he was everything you ever wanted in a sports hero - drop dead gorgeous, lots of talent (on and off the ice), bad to the bone but with a heart of absolute gold. He was funny and every now and then he would expose a side of himself that would have you absolutely swooning. "Someday Sid," he said. "Not today, but someday I'll make you mine." Killian by Brenda Rothert He was just such a great character he never wavered from the beginning of the book and although of course we did see changes in him as he began to realise the depths of his feelings for Sidney, he was still the bad to the bone man we had come to quiver over. Sidney was so refreshing as a female lead character - succesful, smart and hardworking. I loved the fact that for a change both leading characters were succesful and hardworking. I also enjoyed how we got to see the struggles that Sidney faced in trying to determine whether she would follow through with a relationship with Killian. She had to think about the team, her family - she came from a very wealthy and almost aristocratic background who she knew would consider Killian a step down for her. I loved the dynamic between these two. Even though they were at odds initially they were immediately attracted to one another. As time passed and their friendship grew, the chemistry between the 2 exploded and it became increasingly difficult for them to stay away from one another. The scene in Sidney's office where Killian tells her he won't touch her, literally had me fanning myself! HOT!!! However, with all of the feelings of chemistry and the deepening of feelings - will it be enough for these two to fight for each other. Killian is on the verge of being called to the major leagues. Sidney has vested interestes in many other businesses, which means her schedule is unforgiving and she spends a lot of time travelling already. Will she be able to handle the added stress of a relationship? Will anyone accept the relationship that she has developed with one of her players? This book is getting 4 swooning, lusty stars. I loved this book. It was a romance novel that for a change wasn't all about wham, bam and thank you ma'am. Don't misunderstand me, there are plenty of parts that will leave you feeling hot and bothered, but for the most part, it is just an amazing love story. I am a huge fan of Brenda Rothert and get ridiculously excited any time I hear that a new book of hers is being released. I look forward to reading about the other players from the Fenway Flyers!
