Now in her early forties, this once free-spirited woman considers herself a responsible adult and works hard to keep life put together. So when a college friend invites her and her two little girls to come for a visit, she’s ecstatic about a vacation. Only she’s placed in the garage apartment of her best friend’s older brother. Being attracted to him hadn’t been on her itinerary, but there’s no going back when hearts become reckless. + + + Welcome back to Lakeside Cottage. 4 Heart Review by Ashley I have mixed feelings about Loving at 40. Which is strange to say because it is my favorite in L.B. Dunbar's Lakeside Cottage series so far, but it is heavyyyyyy (especially with what is happening in the world right now). I had to put it down more than once to regroup because of the feelings some of the events stirred in me. That being said, I really liked Jenna. Struggling to move forward after one moment changed the trajectory of her life, she was still thoughtful and kind. And completely at a loss when it came to Archer. The man who thrilled and scared her in equal parts- for very different reasons. I loved unraveling the gruff mystery that was Archer. He had been mentioned in the other books in the series but never made an appearance. To his family he was cold and uncaring. The truth: he cared a lot. Enough to sacrifice his happiness for their safety. But when he laid eyes on Jenna for the first time something shifted in him. And seeing him with Rosie and Talia...cue the swoon. I loved how Jenna saw Archer. Beyond the brashness to the man who needed a sense of normalcy. A chance to be himself. With his family. Not hiding or pretending. Someone to protect his heart. While I would've loved to see a bit more of the rest of the cottage crew, these two definitely stand on their own. From start to finish Jenna and Archer's romance was emotional and sexy with hints of danger and humor too. They had both endured their share of pain but in the other, found a soft place to land. And that ending...all the happy belly flutters. About the Author I’ve been accused of having an over-active imagination. To my benefit, this imagination has created over twenty novels, including the creation of a small-town world (Sensations Collection), rock star mayhem (Legendary Rock Star series), MMA chaos (Paradise Stories), rom-com for the over forty (The Sex Education of M.E.), and a suspenseful island for redemption (The Island Duet). My alter ego, elda lore, creates magical romance through mythological retellings (Modern Descendants). My life revolves around a deep love of reading about fairy tales, medieval knights, regency debauchery, and strong alpha males. I love a deep belly laugh, a strong hug, and an occasional margarita. My other loves include being mother to four grown children and wife to the one and only.
