We were living in a state of ignorant bliss. Ready to move on, ready to heal.

Our plan was working until we found that small slip of paper inside our apartment. A promised message that I would never truly be free. Now, the life I thought I'd have with Logan was quickly becoming no life at all. Cutting ties with everyone I know; Logan and I decided to start a new life, hoping to leave the past behind us, along with that piece of paper.

Three thousand miles and one year later, Logan and I were still struggling with the choices we’d made. The guilt I had for leaving my best friend, Abby remained, devouring me from the inside out. But then, in a twist of fate, Abby came back into my life, offering a chance to mend our broken friendship.

But just like Abby’s unexpected return, the demons from my past quickly began to resurface. Pieces of my past continued to haunt me, forcing me to question whether the life Logan and I had built was real or whether everything wasn't as it seemed.

My past had returned, determined to prove my life wasn’t truly mine.

It never was.

4 Heart Review by Ashley

Holy what did I just read? Mine is my very first book from Brittany Taylor and boy was it intense and emotional and twisted! I will say that not having read the first book in the series (even though this is touted as a standalone), I was a little lost on some of the references mentioned here. That being said, the gaps were filled in quickly and didn't take away from my overall enjoyment of the current events.

I liked that I could feel the connection between Lena and Logan from the first page. Their love was deep and pure and brought out the best in them as they worked to rebuild their lives from the pain of their past. And they were both so dang likeable. Kind, trusting and hardworking.

But what a mess they made when their past seemingly won't leave them be. I get that they were trying to protect one another but I just wanted to lock them in the shed and make them talk to each other about what was going on.

I really enjoyed the way that Brittany Taylor steadily amped up the drama. Giving hints of what was going on here and there but not enough to reveal the full picture until it was too late. And when that final turn hit, I was just as blindsided as Logan and Lena. My heart was pounding and I was holding my breath as everything played out. I still feel breathless from the intensity of it all. From start to finish, Lena and Logan's story was sexy, twisty and jam packed with feels and I couldn't put it down.
