4.5 Star Review by AshleyI loved Dax and Beck's story when I met them a while back in On Solid Ground (Please read that book first so you can embrace just how far these two men have come).Their story got to me and I fell head over heels with these two men and their capacity for acceptance, love and forgiveness. So when I heard that Melissa Collins was bringing them back in On Higher Ground I knew I had to get my greedy eyes on it.
Dax and Beck love each other there is no questioning that. They have found their stride professionally but something is off between them. They're both too strong-willed to admit to the other their fears. Not that I liked seeing them struggle because I didn't but I liked that they found a way to put aside their fears and work through their issues together. Was it easy? No. Was it worth it? Yes. Were there setbacks? Yes. Every couple has them. And of course there to bring the laughter and lightness was sweet Violet. That little girl hadn't lost her happy heart. When things were at their worst for Beck and Dax, she was the force that held everything and everyone together. This book with this couple touched me even more than the first time I met them. I laughed and lamented with them. I felt their turmoil as they battled nightmares, jealousy and nerves. I rejoiced with them in their joy and happiness. Melisa Collins took a realistic look at relationships and how much work they really are. This was a look into what happens when the "honeymoon phase" wears off. When all that's left is your love. Life happens and gets in the way of where you want to go and who you want to be. It takes work to put your demons to rest and accept who you are. Beck and Dax did that and then some. They found their Higher Ground- who they wanted to be for themselves, each other, their family and their forever.
