Picture
A broken boy on the path to destruction.
A scarred girl without direction.

A love story carved in secrets, inked with pain and sealed with a lie.

Grace Shaw and West St. Claire are arctic opposites.
She is the strange girl from the food truck.
He is the mysterious underground fighter who stormed into her sleepy Texan college town on his motorcycle one day, and has been wreaking havoc since.
She is invisible to the world.
He is the town’s beloved bad boy.
She is a reject.
He is trouble.
When West thrusts himself into Grace’s quiet life, she scrambles to figure out if he is her happily-ever-after or tragic ending.
But the harder she pushes him away, the more he pulls her out of her shell.
Grace doesn’t know much about anything beyond her town’s limits, but she does know this:
She is falling in love with the hottest guy in Sheridan U.
And when you play with fire—you ought to get burned.

5 Heart Review by Lorena

L.J. Shen broke my heart in the most beautiful way EVER!

By far the best of L.J. Shen to date!!

This book had me all kinds of giddy, emotional and downright happy. With the things these both characters went through in their young life and having to deal with situations that were pretty complicated has them bond over their messed up lives.

Grace had a great path going, she was young, beautiful, smart and had a good looking boyfriend. She was popular and was part of the cheer team and honestly couldn't have asked for more, until tragedy strikes and everything changes.

West has a good life, the best friend anyone could ask for and a wonderful six year old sister that he loved to death. While one day he was so tired and had the hang over of his life, he couldn't comply with his promise to his little sister in making her waffles that morning due to him not being able to wake up. He too had tragedy strike him and he wasn't the same person since.

Grace and West didn't start off on a great note, but little by little they formed a friendship that was full of banter and laughter, something neither one had done in a while. They seemed to have so much in common and little by little they were breaking down each other's walls and falling in love without realizing it.

What started as something casual soon turned serious but there were other issues that needed to be handled before they can think about them having a happily ever after.

This book........oh my god, I absolutely LOVED and ADORED the book and the characters so much.

Honestly I couldn't go to bed after I finished because I just kept thinking about this book and how happy I was with the outcome. Just to read about how much pain these two individuals dealt with and how they were so closed off and how they eventually trusted one another and were able to open up to each other -- just made my heart soar.

4 Heart Review by Ashley

I don't know what kind of voodoo spell L.J. Shen has wrapped around me but I can never put her words down. Case in point, Playing with Fire. Holy emotional roller coaster from the start.

There was something about Grace that made me want to wrap her up and show her there was good in the world. She personified her name. She had been beaten down by the circumstance life had thrown at her. She was existing, trying to hide her pain, her scars from everyone. Even herself. Until West St. Claire stormed his way into her world.

That man- wow. Just wow. He was broody and brash and protective. A fighter in every sense of the word. And so riddled with guilt that he didn't know how to let himself be happy. Until Grace. He couldn't explain why he was drawn to her, he just was. But the best part was how he saw her. That he saw her. Her pain. Her fear. Her beauty. Her spirit that wanted to break free. And bit by bit, he tore that wall down and it sparked life into him for the first time in forever.

I can't quite put my finger on exactly what made Playing With Fire so dang good. It was the way things that didn't seem to mesh wound their way together to make perfect sense. The friendships. The banter. The fights. The tacos! I was completely consumed with West and Grace's unlikely romance that left me with the flutters for days.
