There were shadows I was running from.
Ones that haunted and taunted.
Ones that made it so I had no choice but to disappear.

I’d spent years hiding from the world.
My little island haven, the only assurance of safety.

It all changed the moment he showed up at my door.
The hint of pain in his eyes told me that something haunted him, too.
And I couldn’t help but be drawn closer.

But finding the person I needed most came with risks I never expected.
And when our ghosts find us again, neither of us may make it out this time.

4 Heart Review by Ashley

Oh my heart! Reckless Refuge got me so good. The gut clenching opening had me invested from the start. And dare I say, that this is my favorite book in the series so far.

I adored Shay. Her hard work and grit. Her survival instinct. Her kindness. Her lonely heart that wanted more but never dared to dream for it. Until Brody stormed his way into her safe haven and did the impossible, wormed his way into her life. And heart. I really liked that man. He was kind and generous. Creative, talented and had the patience of a saint. But when the things they were both hiding from show up to taunt them, everything changed.

Bravo to Catherine Cowles for putting just enough crumbs out there to make me think I had it figured out. Was I ever wrong. Holy crap. The dangerous, dramatic showdown had my heart racing. Talk about intense, I still feel winded.

Shay and Brody's tender and slow burning romance while laced with fear was also full of promise and hope. I loved how they saw each other for all they were and weren't. How they encouraged each other to create and fight for what they wanted. Plus catching up with the rest of the rest of the Anchor Island crew is always fun.
