My life changed forever the night my husband died. I was left with a shattered heart, a heap of bills, and our daughter, EVERLEIGH. I don’t want to rely on anyone, least of all CREW GENTRY. He’s my first love and the man who almost destroyed me, the man who has let me down every time I’ve needed him. But when tragedy strikes a second time, Crew just might be my only hope. My life changed forever the night my brother died. I was left with a guilty conscience, a pile of mistakes, and little else. I take care of JULIA GENTRY, my brother’s widow and the love of my life, and their daughter. I know she doesn’t want my help, but she gets it anyway. I owe her that. When another disaster hits, I’m given the opportunity to make things right. I’m taking it. I'm willing to sacrifice it all. Review by Ashley I still can't wrap my mind, let alone my heart around this heartbreakingly beautiful story. Sacrifice is the perfect title and Adriana Locke didn't hold back one bit. I fell in love with Crew and Julia right from the start. The story is told from a dual POV which, when done the right way, as it was here, gives the story something extra special. I liked that it allowed me to get into Crew and Julia's heads because there is so much internal dialogue throughout and so much that goes unsaid between the two of them. I loved Everleigh. That little girl really stole the show with her sweet innocence and joyous spirit. My heart absolutely broke for her and Jules and Crew when things took a turn for the worse. As if they hadn't all suffered enough already. I loved that Julia was a mess. Yes, she was an incredibly strong woman to have suffered all that she had and to wake up everyday and just be present for her daughter but she fell apart, a lot. It made me want to crawl into my book and comfort her. How much more was life gonna throw her way...apparently a bit more. With Ever's future hanging in the balance she turns to the only person she has, Crew. I really liked Crew. His selflessness when it came to Jules and Ever showed a softer side to the born fighter. He was brash and hard when he needed to be yet gentle and kind when the situation called for it. He was also, always, brutally honest; even if it wasn't what you wanted to hear. Seeing him with Everleigh melted my heart. I loved that he turned her fears into strength with one simple suggestion. His patience and calm for her, and Julia, was just what they all needed. To say Crew and Julia's relationship is rocky is putting it mildly. But when push comes to shove, he is there doing the only thing he knows how to take care of Jules and Ever. Old grudges and hurts are pushed aside to focus on what really matters. I absolutely adored them together! Yes the circumstances were less than ideal but they were both drowning and became each others life vest. There was a reverence in the way they loved each other. However, Crew's one big hope, his ace in the hole could be what really does them all in for good. And that is where the big turn comes in the book. WOW! The last few chapters flew by and I was holding my breath through it all, right along with Julia. I was not expecting that heart pounding ending at all. The epilogue was so thoroughly moving that it had more tears flowing from my eyes (as if there weren't enough throughout the rest of the book already). It wasn't all tears though! There was plenty of steaminess and humor mixed into all the strife. The laughs mostly came from the antics of the secondary characters, mainly Will and Sal. Adriana Locke, you wholeheartedly blew me away with this book. My chest ached the whole time I was reading and when I was finished I wanted so much more of Julia and Crew About Adriana Locke USA Today Bestselling author Adriana Locke lives and breathes books.
