Since, I was in the mood for something short, steamy and suspenseful and Safeguard sounded like it would fit the bill perfectly. Well it fit the short and the steamy but fell a little short on the suspense for me. That being said I still mostly enjoyed it. I liked the honest portrayal of a young-ish solider just coming back and getting his feet back under him. And I also enjoyed Melanie's tough yet tender demeanor. Despite being burned, badly, in the past she was still willing to put herself out there for love. When unknown threats put Melanie in jeopardy, her boss calls in the calvary- aka- a security team that puts her and Chase in the same orbit. There was no denying their chemistry and as hard as Chase tried to stay away, for the sake of the job at hand, he just couldn't. These two were dynamite between the sheets. However, outside of their bedroom games, I felt, that there wasn't a lot of connecting happening yet it didn't take long for the 'I love you' to come out. While the romance was blooming, the threat to Melanie didn't waver. It's intensity only increased the more time her and Chase spent together, until everything came to a head. I will say that for as drastic a turn things took, I found the way it was resolved quite anticlimactic. I wanted more details. But I did like that Melanie and Chase got the happy ending and future they both wanted. About the Author JM Kelley loves to write sexy hot Romance as much as she loves to read it.
