Because love can bleed into the darkest heart
I found her when I least expected.
I should have let her go, but I couldn't.
My world is too dangerous for her.
But she needs the protection only I can give her.
And without her life has no meaning.
For the first time in my life, I'm taking what I want--
consequences be damned.

4 Heart Review by Ashley

The men of Hidden Justice are back and this time it was Marcus who got hit unexpectedly by the love bug. I was not in any way ready for the heart stopping, dramatic way he met his match.

My heart was racing the first time Marcus met Missy. It twisted and pulse pounding and had me rooting for the poor girl. There was something about her that drew Marcus in before he even knew her name. He couldn't explain it but his need to protect her, keep her safe, figure out why she was in that situation made him break his own rule. Keep her close.

There was no denying the chemistry between these two. It sizzled and jumped off the page. But I think my favorite thing was Missy herself. She was smart and brave and strong and fearless. As she regained her strength and clarity on what happened to her, she knew she had to be part of the solution. No matter how much Marcus tried to put his foot down and keep her out of it, she wasn't having it. She knew she was the key to getting answers and ahead of the threat.

But holy crap! My jaw was on the floor as everything came to a head and played out in seemingly slow motion. I feel breathless after finishing Second in Command. Missy and Marcus' whirlwind romance was dangerous and deliciously dirty at the same time. Intense and tender and I couldn't get enough.

About the Author

New York Times/USA Today bestselling author Melanie Moreland, lives a happy and content life in a quiet area of Ontario with her beloved husband of thirty-plus years and their rescue cat, Amber. Nothing means more to her than her friends and family, and she cherishes every moment spent with them.

While seriously addicted to coffee, and highly challenged with all things computer-related and technical, she relishes baking, cooking, and trying new recipes for people to sample. She loves to throw dinner parties, and also enjoys traveling, here and abroad, but finds coming home is always the best part of any trip.

Melanie loves stories, especially paired with a good wine, and enjoys skydiving (free falling over a fleck of dust) extreme snowboarding (falling down stairs) and piloting her own helicopter (tripping over her own feet.) She's learned happily ever afters, even bumpy ones, are all in how you tell the story.
