Every city needs a hero, but Detroit’s white knight just might be a villain.

A rough childhood branded Jasper Storm trouble. A bad boy. Not worth a damn. His love of cars was the only thing that could battle his delinquency. With the need for speed in his blood, he overcame his wayward ways. Mostly. Now the broken city of Detroit hails him their shining star. And the man behind a new cutting-edge automobile is ready to turn this bankrupt town around.

Charlotte Lane was the tomboy who lived next door. She was his best friend. He was her protector. Then tragedy struck and she disappeared, forever—or so he thought.
Everything Jasper does in life is fast. He talks fast, f*cks fast, and drives fast. But when one reckless turn brings him face-to-face with the childhood he has tried very hard to forget, he finds himself on the edge of wondering if he shouldn’t slow down.

Time hasn’t erased who they are though. Jasper has many reasons to hate Charlotte and keep his distance, which is easier said than done. Soon she’s infiltrating his every thought and he can’t stay away. Back in town with an agenda of her own, she should push him aside. Make him turn around. Walk away herself. Yet she can't.

With the past lurking between them, they proceed with caution. That is until one sex-filled night leads to murder, and things are forced to change. Now that Detroit’s biggest ally has suddenly become suspect number one, will Charlotte—the girl Jasper once kept safe—be the one to save

5 Star Review by Lorena

Kim Karr you are a genius!

You have done it again!  Talk about taking me on a wild roller coaster ride and I loved every minute of this fantastic book!

Jasper and Charlotte - childhood friends that were separated by unforeseen circumstances and left Jasper upset, angry and hurt.

When Jasper and Charlotte meet again as adults, Jasper can't help but to feel hatred for Charlotte for abandoning him when they were kids but it really wasn't up to her, she was just a child and was forced to move away.  Now she's back to investigate the cause of the explosion to the plant her father and her uncle owned and what exactly happened.

Jasper can't seem to find himself to stay away from Charlotte and Charlotte has always cherished her friendship with Jasper.  Can they both leave the past in the past and move forward?  What will happen between Jasper and Charlotte?  Will they stay friends or will their friendship blossom into romance?

Jasper finds himself in a situation that might jeopardize his new company and somebody is behind this sabotage.  Who is it and why are they trying to compromise Jasper???

This book was intriguing and Ms. Karr did such an amazing job at keeping me guessing on who or what would happen next.  I loved the whole mystery that was behind this story line, it felt like Mission Impossible :)

A total two thumbs up for this fantastic book and I am anxiously awaiting for book 2 to come out because I need to find out what the conclusion to this thrilling story will be!

5 outstanding stars!!

4 Star Review by Ashley

WOW! My head is still spinning and I finished this book a few days ago. I haven't read a Kim Karr title since Frayed but I am so glad I picked up Set the Pace. This book is a whirlwind of events and emotions. I will say that after the heart pounding way it started, it did seem to slow a bit. However, about halfway through the pace really picked up and I found myself reading furiously.

There was something about the leading character, Jasper, that made me want to beat him up and be his best friend at the same time. He is loyal to a fault and has a heart of gold but he is also bitter and jaded by the tragedy that shaped his past. When an unexpected but not wholly unwelcome blast from his childhood storms her way back into his world everything he's been dreaming of comes spiraling down. And Charlotte- that spitfire stole my heart.

I loved her tenacity in the face of everything life had thrown her way. How she wasn't backing down from finding the truth no matter the cost. What she wasn't prepared for was Jasper and the intense feelings she felt for him. Gone was the innocence of childhood friendship and in its place was something heavier, more powerful, sexier. I liked seeing these two together and how Charlotte infiltrated his defenses and brought out the side of Jasper that he had buried long ago.

Amid the budding relationship between Jasper and Charlotte is an unfolding mystery twenty years in the making. I didn't see the first big shocker that left me with my jaw on the floor and I certainly didn't see the second of the third. Or the last one. My heart was racing and my head was left reeling. It was one twist and

Kim Karr started something magical in Set the Pace. It was equal parts emotional, dramatic, sexy and mysterious. The whole cast- from Charlotte to Jake to Tory- was well developed and had a purpose. Though you're not always sure what it is. Mini spoiler alert- this one ends in a major cliffhanger- I mean whoa! Didn't see that coming and I need to know what happens next in the Jasper/Charlotte saga.
