Helen. What a sweet name for a girl who is anything but.

The first time I laid eyes on Theo Whitlock, I chased him and his frat boy friends with a bat.
I’m no white knight.

I’m broke. He’s rich. I destroyed his car. He chooses not to rat me out.
I was never supposed to go to college, but especially not one like Savage U, where only the wealthiest need apply. One might call this a lucky break, only I don’t feel so lucky with a drug dealer breathing down my neck, and a gangster threatening to burn my house down.
You have a face that could launch a thousand ships.

Theo and I don’t make sense, but being with him feels good, and I need more than my books and classes to distract me from the chaos and violence in my life.

I know you’re my good girl. Aren’t you, Helen? Tell me.

We’re casual. No complications. We have to be. I’m keeping secrets, and I have a feeling behind Theo Whitlock’s twinkly blue eyes is a whole world of darkness.
Do you think about me?

Too much…

Did I hurt you?

He will...if the other savages don’t get to me first.

(Author's note: This is a dark college romance that explores mature themes and dubious situations. Guaranteed: a badass heroine, bad guys, and a satisfying happily ever after.)

5 Heart Review by Lorena

My first Julia Wolf book and I have to say I am HOOKED on her already. I will definitely have to go back and read her back log because damn I couldn't put down Soft Like Thunder.

I was definitely into this couple. From the moment I got to know Theo and Helen I knew I was going to be a goner with them.

Helen Ortega really had me rolling with her skater attitude, calling all her bro friends "dudes" and she put everyone in the same bracket [category] and she didn't allow ANYONE to break down her walls and I mean ANYONE. So when Theo came along knocking on her door, she made it pretty near impossible for him to knock it down, but damn that boy was relentless. From the moment he met her, he knew she was such a little spit fire and he loved that instantly about her. He knew he had his work cut out for him with her but he was willing to work hard because there was something about her that drove him crazy and he knew, he just knew that she was worth it.

Even though Helen made it nearly impossible for Theo to get close to her, she eventually found it cute that he was non-stop after her and she just never got that attention from anyone. When she saw that he really cared about her and went all kinds of trouble to go out of the way for her, she knew that he was worth it and she gave in and dove right in. But he made it really clear that they were not a "thing" and they were just going to take it day by day but she didn't know if she could take it day by day because she was starting to fall for this boy even though she didn't want to.

She came from a rough neighborhood and her mother was a piece of work but Helen was willing to sacrifice whatever it took to save her little sister and eventually get her out of that house and that included sacrificing herself at whatever cost it took. The things she went through were not easy and she tried to keep that life separate but she made it very clear to Theo what she had to do in order to survive and he made it clear he didn't like it. They had their ups and downs about it but it was what it was.

Eventually Helen and Theo head butted over things and their relationship was coming at a stand-still. Will they make it work or will they end up collapsing!

Boy oh boy, this book had me all kinds of messed up. I absolutely loved the characters and the friendships that Helen had were definitely a group that anyone would die to have in real life. Helen is a little firecracker but she was also vulnerable, a tough cookie but she was a softie inside.

I totally digged this book and I have become a huge fan of Julia Wolf with just this one book ;)
