This book was absolutely phenomenal. If you love to read dark books, then this is definitely one you don't want to miss out on reading. I mean, holy sh*t this book had me hooked big time.
Miles (Phoenix) was a boy that grew up in an orphanage. No one wanted a trouble boy like him, until a family decided to take him in just so they can receive his income. They didn't care about him and technically no one did until Vanessa came along. Vanessa liked Miles and she fell for this boy when he beat the crap out of a boy for bullying Vanessa. She was scared but thrilled at the same time. But holy mother of god, these two together spelled TROUBLE! Vanessa was manipulated by her mother and had to do as she said otherwise her mother would threaten Vanessa with killing Miles. The last thing Vanessa wanted was to get Miles killed so she got Miles in trouble a lot and lied to him constantly. Miles gave up his normal life and started hanging out with the wrong crowd and he blamed it all on Vanessa. He said that she drove him to the bad people and that's why he became bad. She never wanted to hurt him but she knew she had to in order to protect him. Miles became Phoenix and he became a hitman. He killed and he got a thrill out of it too. He had no remorse and thrived on killing people. His thing though was that he was going to get revenge on Vanessa when he got out of jail and he wasn't going to hold anything back. He was going to mistreat her, and make her suffer before he killed her. Vanessa knew that the day would come when Phoenix would come looking for her and she was scared because she knew that he wanted revenge. The day that Phoenix showed up at Vanessa's she had no choice but to submit to his demands. He treated her like his little pet and did exactly what he said he was going to do -- mistreat her. He got a thrill to see the fear in her eyes and he loved every minute of it. Vanessa was always a good manipulator -- can she continue manipulating Phoenix? Can she turn the tables around on him and for her to take control of the situation? Someone wants Vanessa dead besides Phoenix, but no one touches what's his and no one definitely gets to kill her but him! This book really, really is phenomenal. This is the second book I read from this author and I have to say that it certainly won't be the last. Her books will hook you and you'll fall in love with her characters, regardless of how bad and hateful the characters are in her book. You'll still fall in love with them. Totally 5 star read!!
