Who does that sexy silver fox think he is, sitting in her spot in the Busy Bean Cafe?
Over forty, with zero filter, Rita Kaplan loves her coffee, her hiking boots, and her law practice. Life hasn’t always been carefree, though, and Rita’s past holds the scars of poor decisions after deep loss. She survived, though, and no smirky silver fox is going to get in the way of her happiness. Even if he knows how to use his drill, screwdriver, and every other tool in his box to tempt her . . .
Former arson investigator Jake Drummond could add ex-con to his resume if he had one. Instead, he’s serving the final year of his sentence on probation. This involves mandatory AA meetings, hosted by a feisty local attorney, and working on a renovation project, supervised by the same annoyingly attractive whirlwind, who also believes she owns the exclusive rights to a comfy couch in his new favorite coffee shop. Soon she’s everywhere, including the few places she shouldn’t be--like in his bed and in his heart.
Can opposites lower their walls and construct something everlasting . . . or will their connected past lead to demolition for two hearts in need of a rebuild?

If ever there was a more unlikely couple it is Rita and Jake. From the first moment I met them I knew I was in for a treat. Throw in some redemption and a second chance at life and love and I was all in.
I adored Rita. She was a woman who had loved and lost, made mistakes and was doing her best to make up for them. She knew what she wanted and what she wouldn't stand for. But when her charge of sorts steals 'her seat' at the Busy Bean, it lit a fire in her and sparked something in Jake too. There was something about Jake that just drew me in. He was hard working and playful. Loyal and doing what he had to in order to try and move on from the night that changed his life.
Too bad he couldn't escape Rita. She was everywhere. Work, his mandatory meetings, the coffee shop, With her kindness, patience, quirks and grace she quickly wormed her way into his heart. But when it was revealed just how closely linked their shared tragic pasts were, it changed everything.
Was the big reveal a bit predictable? Yes. Did I care? Nope. Because it was the fallout from the bombshell that really punched me right in the chest. Could they move on from it? Could they forgive and trust after being burnt once again? Could they survive when the truth really came out?
I loved the way L.B. Dunbar wove conflict, passion and inner turmoil into Jake and Rita's enemies-to-lovers romance. Talk about an emotional roller coaster. Even when their heads and hearts were at war with one another about what to do, there was no denying the deep connection between them. And that ending...a great full circle moment.

I’ve been accused of having an over-active imagination. To my benefit, this imagination has created over twenty novels, including the creation of a small-town world (Sensations Collection), rock star mayhem (Legendary Rock Star series), MMA chaos (Paradise Stories), rom-com for the over forty (The Sex Education of M.E.), and a suspenseful island for redemption (The Island Duet). My alter ego, elda lore, creates magical romance through mythological retellings (Modern Descendants). My life revolves around a deep love of reading about fairy tales, medieval knights, regency debauchery, and strong alpha males. I love a deep belly laugh, a strong hug, and an occasional margarita. My other loves include being mother to four grown children and wife to the one and only.
