One devastating night leaves friendships and relationships irrevocably changed.

Landon Hayes, an all-star wide receiver, is spiraling out of control after one shattering night that altered everything for him. He has one shining star left in his life but he knows he doesn’t deserve it.

Macy Thomas, a college sweetheart trying to find her way, is holding on to the boy who stole her heart. She’s stuck on the sidelines watching as he throws his life away though. The guilt is pulling him into the blackness threatening to take her and everything he has going for him along with it.

When the heartbreaking reality sets in, can Macy still be Landon’s guiding light or is the past too cloudy to help them find their way back to each other?

3.5 Star Review by Ashley

While YA is not my favorite of genres to read, sports romance is so I figured I'd give this one a whirl. Surviving Regret is the first book I've read from Megan Smith and for me it was ok. Told in dual POV and following Macy and Landon as they navigate the waters of young adulthood after a horrific tragedy that left everyone in their tight-knit circle reeling.

What I liked most about Landon and Macy was how messed up they were. They each found their own way to compensate for the wicked turn their lives had taken, yet they never fully healed or tried to move on from it. But there was this underlying thread of it's going to get better, it has to...But we all know you've got to hit the bottom before you can climb to the top. And this held true for both Macy and Landon and eventually they turned to each other, towards unconditional love instead of their vices.

While I did find parts of the story to be repetitive (same events told from the other POV), it just proved how two people can witness the same thing and see something completely different. Surviving Regret is the perfect title for this emotional read. Both Macy and Landon's journey was heartfelt and full of pain. But there was also healing and comfort and peace to be found for them as the pages wore on.
